Qom Municipality Urged to Clarify How Muay Thai Competitions Will Be Held
Qom – A member of the Qom City Council, criticizing the ambiguities surrounding Muay Thai competitions in Qom, called on the municipality to clarify its level of financial participation and its executive role.
According to Mehr reporter, Hojjat-ul-Islam wal-Muslimin Morteza Astaghat, in the official meeting of the Qom city council before noon on Monday, referring to some issues and issues raised regarding the holding of national Muay Thai competitions in Qom, stated: The people of this city should not face media consequences due to some carelessness and the provincial officials should be accountable for the issues that have arisen.
Emphasizing the necessity of protecting the position of Qom, he added: What is the sin of the people of this city that they have to bear the consequences of possible wrong decisions and actions, and the officials are expected to manage the issues of the province with more tact and responsibility.
Referring to the past experiences and the formation of media fringes about this city, the member of the Qom Islamic Council stated: In some issues, including during the outbreak of the Corona virus, Qom faced various comments and marginalizations, and care should be taken so that decisions and actions that can be criticized do not become the basis for the repetition of such situations.
Tastagh continued to discuss the issue of expenses related to the holding of Muay Thai competitions in Qom and said: Regarding this event, there are ambiguities regarding the necessity of holding, the manner of implementation and the amount of participation of the municipality, which must be resolved by careful investigation and providing clear explanations.
He stated that the mentioned issue has been investigated in the Cultural Commission of the Islamic Council of the city and the Cultural Organization of the Qom Municipality. He noted that despite the supervisory responsibility of the members of the council, the details of this event and the role of the municipality in holding it were not clearly provided to us, and after the investigations, the necessity of a more detailed follow-up of the issue was determined.
Referring to the meeting held in the mayor's office on 30 Shahrivar, the member of the Qom Islamic Council said: It is necessary to clarify what role the municipality played in this event and whether it was the main organizer or just participated in it as a participant.
Tastagh added: Different figures have been proposed about the costs of holding competitions, but to make an accurate judgment about the costs, official and documented information must be provided and the municipality's actual share of the total costs must be known.
Emphasizing the necessity of separating direct and indirect costs, he said: The municipality should clearly announce how much credit it has allocated for this event, what services it has provided, and how much its total financial and executive obligations have been.
Referring to the necessity of prioritizing sports support in the province, this member of Qom Islamic Council said: Qom has significant capacities in fields such as futsal, karate and wrestling, and the athletes of these fields have won medals and positions in national and international competitions, so the necessity of holding sports events and how to allocate resources to them should be carefully examined.
He continued: Before making any decisions about the spending of public resources for holding competitions, it is necessary to know the goals, necessities and the amount of expected achievements in order to provide the possibility of evaluating the performance and measuring the proportionality of the costs with the results.
In another part of his speech, Tastagh mentioned the issue of using municipal facilities and capacities for holding competitions and said: According to the information presented, about 20 buses were provided for this event at some point, and it is necessary to explain about the allocation of this fleet and its effects on public transportation services.
He added: At the same time, some citizens had raised complaints about the disruption of bus services, and this issue doubles the necessity of examining how to plan for the use of public transportation capacities.
A member of the Islamic Council of Qom city stated: It should be determined that before allocating buses to the competitions, the necessary assessment of the fleet capacity and the needs of the citizens was done or not, and whether this action has affected the provision of services to the citizens and the neighbors.
Emphasizing the supervisory responsibility of the Islamic Council of Qom city, Tastagh noted: People's representatives in the council have the duty to make demands about the way public resources are spent, the use of city facilities and executive decisions, and this issue should also be investigated by providing accurate and documented information.
