The sheikh was famous for his worship, asceticism, piety and indifference to worldly decorations, and God also gave him two sons, one of whom became Agha Ziauddin Amoli to follow his father's path in the religious sciences, and the other was Kazem Amoli, who became a skilled doctor and alleviated the suffering of the sick.
Kazem was born in Najaf in 1304. He was nine years old when his father decided to return to his homeland and the family gathered their lives and left for Iran. Kazem completed his primary education at Basirt primary school and secondary school at Sharaf High School in Tehran. The path of education was smooth for him. He also had a lot of intelligence. His father, Sheikh Muhammad Taqi Alami, was a pious scholar and his ancestors were all on the path of religion. Kazem, who lived in this family and grew tall among the masses of people; He saw their pain and suffering and wanted to die for various diseases that send a large number of people to the cemetery every day. find a way It was the year 1324 when he participated in the medical exam of Tehran University and was able to get the first rank. He became a medical student. He studies with interest and enthusiasm. He used to observe the behavior of his professors and besides medical science, he learned ethics and humanity from them. He found his professors wise; A scientist and interested in his work and field, who showed up in class on time and taught with sincerity and a sense of duty. Medical books were not available and the students wrote down the professors' speech sentence by sentence and memorized it like gold leaf. In 2013, Kazem received a doctorate in medicine with honors from the University of Tehran. Mashhad medical school had just been established and he went to that city for three years to teach basic courses. After that he returned to Tehran. Those were the days when tuberculosis plagued the people and infected many. There was no specific cure for it yet and many lives were lost due to the spread of this disease. Kazem, who always had an alert social conscience, decided to find a way to improve the patients.
In 1334, in the Lung and Tuberculosis Clinic, Dr. Siavash Shaghaghi researched lung and tuberculosis diseases. The Pasteur Institute of Iran, which started working in 1298; Under the leadership of Dr. Mehdi Qudsi, it was on its way to growth. Dr. Qudsi was Kazem's colleague, friend and cousin. Kazem also started his career at the institute and always had deep respect for the activities of that center, especially its role in the development of vaccines.
Dr. Amelie went to England in 1339 to undergo a specialization course and about lung diseases that were unknown in 1330 to 1340; Researched and wrote many articles.
After some time, a cure for tuberculosis was discovered. The doctor also returned to Iran and was able to help cure this disease in Iran with the help of several treatment methods. He expanded his research and while they said that the length of treatment for tuberculosis is nine months; He was able to increase the duration of recovery to six months by combining several treatment methods. Affected patients could return to normal life and live a long life after undergoing treatment. Those days he was not happy in his skin. Treating tuberculosis patients was very sweet and exciting for him. The patients who were waiting for death with hopeless eyes and with the hope and efforts of Dr. Amelie found the way back to life. Especially the day when the three-year-old child treated a poor man and woman and saw tears of joy on their cheeks; never forget
Simultaneously with these actions, he set up a respiratory and lung physiopathology laboratory in the Faculty of Medicine of Tehran University so that students can measure lung volume and learn more while doing research and training.
In 1346, the doctor went to England for the second time in order to complete his specialization while studying. By spending two study opportunities at the university and doing clinical work in specialized lung hospitals and studying and researching in the field of physiology of the respiratory system and lung function tests, he succeeded in obtaining a specialist degree in the field of lung diseases with honors from the University of Wales, England. Despite the possibility of staying in the West, he never thought of staying and after returning to his homeland in 1350, he worked as an associate professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Hazar Takhtakhubi Hospital. A little later, he took charge of the lung disease department and started bronchoscopy for the first time in the hospital.
He who traveled the path of research and treatment with indescribable enthusiasm; He diagnosed some diseases in the field of lung medicine for the first time in Iran. Symptomatology of respiratory diseases and tuberculosis, occupational diseases that mining and heavy metal workers were dealing with, and lung diseases of rural women that spread because of bread baking and smoke penetration into their lungs; The results of Dr. Ameli's studies and observations were. Also, he was able to find "Maiteha" in 1353.
Iran's mites were unknown until then and no one knew that these arthropods could interfere in causing an asthma attack. The doctor identified these small arthropods in the Caspian coast and humid areas and found a way to treat and deal with them. In addition, Dr. Ameli conducted a lot of research in the field of diseases that were less common, such as sarcoidosis, lung fibrosis, and bronchitis lesions, and authored several books, including two books on the symptoms of the respiratory system and tuberculosis and lungs.
A professor who became one of the professors of the Faculty of Medicine of Tehran University in 1364; He always told his students: "Know your value, your field, your professors, your people and your country." A doctor should be with the people and the patients and think with an open mind towards humanity and the world community, but first of all, he should serve Iran and the people of this country. Leaving the homeland permanently and forgetting the homeland is a defect. Traveling is necessary to acquire knowledge and skills, but we doctors owe Iran and its people and we must serve inside our country. If you want to become a legend; Have work, effort, sincerity and knowledge. The job of a doctor is to treat patients, but it is not enough! A doctor should be wise and aware of the situation in the world and his country. Empathize with your fellow countrymen. Do not separate yourself from everything. When necessary, he should be selfless and not hesitate to sacrifice his life, and at the same time, the doctor should know his worth and dignity. Always get the latest medical information. Learn new ways. Be active and tireless. Sympathize with patients. Be content in daily life. Refuse to compare yourself with the rich. Don't expect money from poor patients and don't make a difference between the haves and the have-nots in the work of the patients. Always be fresh. Respect the patient and, in short, have good thoughts, words and actions."
Professor Ameli, who was the behavioral model of his words, and the students learned life lessons by observing his performance; He served patients in Imam Khomeini Hospital and clinic. His office was a quiet and pleasant hall, which was decorated with paintings of natural landscapes and medical recommendations. It also had a library where there were books, plaques and academic certificates. There was also a large aquarium in the corner of the hall where fishes were swimming and healing the mental atmosphere of the patients. When facing the doctor, the patient would face a calm and kind face that is ready to listen to his words. It allowed him to easily describe his situation and by doing this, in addition to creating a sense of intimacy, he got a more accurate diagnosis of the disease.
In 1370, at his suggestion, the Association of Lung Disease Specialists was established. Despite the passing of his life, he was still passionately engaged in research, teaching and research in addition to medicine, and in 1380 he was selected as a model doctor of the country. However, he recommended that more cooperation and double work be formed by creating joint programs in different fields so that the universities of medical sciences can be promoted while doing group work. He believed that although individual work is good, but in the case of lung diseases, which sometimes require years of long-term follow-up; The group can achieve better results. He assessed the status of Iran's medical field as very good despite the shortages in terms of facilities and numbers and said: "After the revolution, the number of medical assistant schools has increased significantly and many Iranian doctors are working as prominent people abroad at high levels. Also, in Iran, you can see doctors who go to deprived areas and provide services. An action that can rarely be seen in other countries."
Iran's great lung man had a distinguished personality and character. He was always present in the department on time and taught the students with dignity and seriousness. He learned medical ethics in practice and had a hand in poetry and literature. He had a companion and a patient wife by his side who was walking with him on the path of life and he had two daughters, one of whom became a dentist and the other worked in the World Health Organization in order to improve the health of poor countries.
The father always told his daughters that the doctor's thinking should be to treat the pain of the patients, not to make money. A doctor should not have a luxurious life. The goal should not be to gain wealth. If the patient doesn't have money, treat him and don't let capitalists manage the relationship between the doctor and the patient. The doctor believed that as long as money did not rule between the patient and the doctor; The treatment was going very well, but when capitalists came to work; Everything changed. When capitalists came to power, the quality of medicine was influenced by money and the treatment also fluctuated.
He considered doctors as tools to treat the sick and the medical profession as a divine miracle that could transform a sick person into a successful and healthy person.
Dr. Ameli spent more than seven decades of his life treating patients, teaching students and advancing medical knowledge. His students and colleagues are more than knowledge and skills; They remember his humanity, humility and deep respect for his patients.
For him, the patient was above all a human being who deserves attention, dignity and empathy. This caused, despite the interest in the science of literature, culture, history, philosophy, geography and astronomy; Choose medicine. He lived among people and did not feel the suffering of his fellows. He considered doctors to be aliens from the society, who live in global societies that, instead of progressing towards goodness, have gone towards degeneration to the point where killing innocent men, women and children and displacement of human beings has become a normal thing. But in this community, he learned to live a good life and finally, on the 20th of October 2019, he said goodbye to his mortal life.
