New York, October 17. /TASS/. The European Union plans to launch an Arctic surveillance program in 2027 "to improve regional relations and counter the growing ambitions of the United States and Russia," Bloomberg said, citing the EU's new Arctic strategy.
The document is scheduled to be released next week. The program is supposed to use the European Union's Copernicus and Galileo satellite systems to detect Arctic threats across land and sea.
Earlier, Vladislav Maslennikov, the director of the European affairs department at the Russian Foreign Ministry and Russia's top official at the Arctic Council, said that the European Union shows its intention to follow the path of escalation in the Arctic and is not ready to abandon the politicization of cooperation issues in high latitudes.
