The Patriot PAC-3 Edge missile is Lockheed Martin's latest missile defense product, which offers a new definition of intercepting hostile targets with unprecedented capabilities in range and altitude.
Lockheed Martin Aerospace Industries Company (Lockheed Martin), in an important event, has unveiled its newest generation of interceptor missiles named PAC-3 Edge. This advanced missile is a response to the growing needs of the US military to deal with modern air threats, including hypersonic missiles. Its design is based on the success of the PAC-3 MSE missile and will have significant capabilities in future battles. This development is an important step in strengthening the US missile defense system.
The unveiling of the PAC-3 Edge missile and its location
Lockheed Martin unveiled the PAC-3 Edge missile on October 12, 2024 (21 October 1403) at the annual meeting of the US Army Association in Washington. This missile is the representative of the company in the future interceptor missile competition of the United States Army. The US military has advanced this plan to the next stage and Lockheed Martin is trying to achieve initial operational capability by 2031. In the US military's layered missile defense system, the Patriot PAC-3 Edge missile sits between the PAC-3 MSE missile and the THAAD system, which intercepts ballistic missiles at much higher altitudes.

Innovations and operational objectives of the Patriot PAC-3 Edge missile
The PAC-3 Edge missile is based on the successful PAC-3 MSE model; A missile that destroys a target by directly hitting it and has been widely used against Russian missiles in Ukraine and Iranian missiles in the Middle East. Lockheed Martin announced that the new version includes a new seeker, updated propulsion system and improved flight controls. This seeker was designed by Lockheed Martin's Strigo product center, which was developed with the company's own $250 million investment. The missile is designed to engage a wide range of aircraft, missiles and hypersonic weapons at higher altitudes and longer ranges than current Patriot interceptors. The PAC-3 Edge is the fourth missile in Lockheed Martin's Patriot family, joining the PAC-3 CRI, PAC-3 MSE and PAC-3 ACE (introduced to European customers in July).
