Three weeks to a million copies isn't amazingly fast by normal video game standards: Blood of Dawnwalker hit the mark in three days, Wardogs did it in a day, and Subnautica 2 hit double that in 12 hours.
But despite producing a string of unique, memorable, and critically acclaimed games, Remedy has never been able to crack a massive box office hit. Even Alan Wake 2, which won multiple awards for narrative and art direction in 2023 (and would have won more if it weren't for the giants of Baldur's Gate 3), took two months to sell a million copies, significantly outpacing the original Control, making it the studio's fastest-selling game at the time.
Remedy's more pressing problem, however, is profitability: it took more than a year, and two million copies sold, before Alan Wake 2 actually started making money. Addressing the shortfall was a top priority for Jean-Charles Godchon, who was named the company's new CEO in February: Remedy's CEO, Henri Osterlund, said at the time that Godchon's appointment "was to lead Remedy into a profitable growth phase."
So far, Goodchon seems to like what he's seeing from Control Resonant, calling the million mark "a very strong start."
Control Resonant puts me to shame, in particular, with a launch day hotfix that negates my original review complaint.

Control Resonance Review: Great sequel, but average focus on melee action
Gaudechon said, "Control Resonant is Remedy's first self-published release on this scale, launching in one of the most competitive windows in years alongside the biggest names in the industry. It's unmistakably Remedy, with the bold ideas and distinct style our players have come to expect from us." "A big thank you to our players and team for making Control Resonant the incredible game it is.
We've always believed that Control deserves a wider audience, and this launch shows what's possible: we see the game connecting with long-time fans while bringing a significant number of new players into the Control world, fueling its long-term potential. With Control and Alan Wake, we now have two established franchises. Our focus is to support what makes them special, and grow them even more. There is more to come from these worlds."
