Atlético Madrid captain Koke's mother dies
Atlético announces a minute of silence in honor of Koke's mother.
According to "Sports Three", the Atletico Madrid team, before the start of tonight's match in the European Champions League against Manchester United, will hold a minute of silence as a sign of respect for Koke's mother, the captain of the team, who died this morning.
"Tonight, before kick-off in the Champions League against Manchester United, a minute's silence will be held in memory of Ana Meriodio Borja, the mother of our captain Koke, who died this morning in Madrid," Atletico's statement read. Our club asked UEFA for permission to hold a minute's silence at first team matches as well as at UEFA Youth League matches, and also requested that players be able to wear black armbands. The governing body of European football issued the permission to pay this tribute to the mother of the captain and coach of the A youth team. Also, as a sign of respect to his memory, the red and white flag of the Riyadh Air Metropolitan Stadium has been raised to half-mast.
On behalf of Atlético Madrid, we extend our deepest condolences to all his family and friends, and especially to Koke, captain of the first team, and Borja Resurrection, coach of the youth A team. His soul is happy.
