Iran Also Concerned About Saudi Arabia Hosting the Asian Cup

The Iran Football Federation, in a letter to the AFC, presented its concerns about Saudi Arabia hosting the Asian Cup.

In a letter to AFC, the Iranian Football Federation expressed its concerns about Saudi Arabia hosting the Nations Cup.

According to Ambassador Arjan, following the intensification of attacks by the Yemeni army on airports in Saudi Arabia such as Riyadh and Dammam and the continuation of the war situation in the host country of the 18th edition of the Asian Nations Cup, some countries participating in these competitions have expressed their concern about the current conditions.

These competitions will be held from January 7 to February 5, 2027 (December 17 to February 16, 1405) in the three cities of Riyadh, Jeddah and Al-Khobar, and due to the continued insecurity in the region, which has caused several flights to Middle East countries to be canceled and airports to be closed, some East and Central Asian countries such as Australia, South Korea, Japan, China, and Uzbekistan have requested AFC to guarantee security in the competitions.

The Iranian Federation also expressed concern about the presence of our country's national team in Saudi Arabia and requested the confederation to provide explanations regarding the prevailing security conditions in this country.

A meeting of the AFC executive committee is scheduled to be held soon, and it remains to be seen what decision will be taken in this regard if tensions continue.

Maybe in this meeting, options such as postponing the matches or changing the host country will be considered, but it should be seen in this online meeting, in which Mehdi Taj will participate as the vice president of AFC, what measures will be taken to hold the matches in the current conditions of Saudi Arabia.

Our country's national team is in Group C of the Nations Cup with Kyrgyzstan, China and Syria and will play all 3 games in the group stage against Riyadh.
