The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Switch 2)
It looks like Kaepora Gaebora's iconic owl - part tutorial and part tip - will be a lot less chatty in the Nintendo Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Who is the most dangerous monster you face in Ocarina of Time? "Ganondorf" you will surely answer. is wrong You might suggest "Kome and Kotake". After all, they raised Ganondorf and set him on his evil path. is incorrect "Well, then the head of the Shadow Temple, Bango Bango, should be ashamed." You idiot the most evil villain can only be Kaepora Gaebora's owl.
Sure, he looks useful. Some might even say he's secretly Rauro, the Sage of Light, but show me the evidence! (so I can ignore it). You might even use the lift he offers down Death Mountain to justify his overly long explanations, but, never forget, always watch out for free-flying owls.
Seriously think about it, what is the best and stupidest way to slow down the hero of time? A monster ambush? You can easily kill those beasts with a few sword blows. But being caught up in a one-way conversation... one that forces you to press the A button - because you already know how the map works and you know for sure where you're going - only to suddenly be asked if you want to hear all that audio again... of course you don't. who But you've already hit A, so you'll hear it again and again and again. Slowly the edges of your soul begin to fray, and with each loose thread, your desire to escape fades until you simply give up. All that remains is a very smug owl.
I know I'm not the only one in an endless circle of "did you get all that?" I am trapped Cursed at the behest of this bird, but it seems our collective suffering is over. During my preview of the Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake, I was very, very worried about meeting the owl. I only had 15 minutes to explore both Hyrule Square and Hyrule Castle Town. A little time that could easily be shortened if I made a bad decision. I could feel Kaupura Gabura on top of me like I was a rat and he was, well, an owl.
When the time came, I took a deep breath. I pay attention. I don't fall for his "yes means no, no means yes" trap. Not this time, however, the damn owl surprised me: the conversation was short. Not even once was there a hint of a map and before I knew it the owl was flying.
I can't say if the incessant chatter of the owl has been reduced elsewhere in the game, but it tracks with the other quality of life changes made to Ocarina of Time in this remake. (There's an Ocarina of Time preview waiting for you if you want to know more. Hint, flick, wink, wink.) What we do know is that she's been sporting a new design, and thanks to the game's trailer, she'll still be offering flights from Lake Hylia.
For now, we'll just have to wait until the remastered version comes out on November 5 to find out exactly how talkative the owl is.
