Javad Imam's account of the attempt to assassinate Abbas Akhundi
The CEO of Baran Foundation announced that an armed person's attempt to assassinate Abbas Akhundi was thwarted and he said that the attacker was handed over to the police force after a fight with the driver of Akhundi.
Javad Imam, the CEO of Baran Foundation, described the details of the assassination attempt on Abbas Akhundi, the former Minister of Roads and Urban Development, and said that a person who had been following and guarding Akhundi for some time entered his car and threatened the driver on Tuesday after the Baran Foundation meeting ended.
Referring to this incident, Javad Imam said that the attacker was previously identified in places where Abbas Akhundi frequented, including the university. According to him, this person had apparently gone to the meeting place of the Baran Foundation a day before the incident and checked there.
Imam explained the details of the incident: Before Abbas Akhundi got into his car in the parking lot, the attacker entered the car and threatened the driver. The driver got out of the car and a physical fight took place between him and the attacker.
The CEO of Baran Foundation added that the mobster's driver managed to remove the weapon from the attacker. At the same time, the security forces of the library came to the place after observing the incident through surveillance cameras and finally, the attacker was handed over to the police force along with the weapon.
Referring to the statements of the arrested person, Javad Imam said that he has claimed that they are members of a group of five or six people and they intend to eliminate a number of prominent personalities of the country.
According to Imam, this person stated that if the members of the group do not succeed in their action, other people will step in and do this work.
The CEO of Baran Foundation, expressing his concern about these statements, demanded the follow-up of the matter by the responsible institutions and emphasized that a detailed report should be provided to the society about this incident.
In another part of his speech, Imam mentioned the protest gatherings in front of Mohammad Javad Zarif's office and Hassan Rouhani's house, as well as the slogans and accusations raised against some political figures.
Criticizing what he called arbitrary behavior and so-called "arbitrary fire" actions, he said that these events are worrisome and raised the question why, despite the legal duties of the security and judicial institutions, such behaviors are not dealt with effectively.
According to the CEO of Baran Foundation, the continuation of this process can lead to disorder and chaos, and its consequences, in addition to the government and security agencies, will also affect the general peace of the society.
Abbas Akhundi's latest health condition
In the end, Javad Imam said about the condition of Abbas Akhundi that he was not harmed in this incident and that the attacker along with the weapon has been handed over to the police.
He also claimed that the purpose of these actions may go beyond Abbas Akhundi and include reformist figures and other critical figures; People who, according to him, express their views on the issues of the country and are against the increase of tension and the spread of conflict.
