'Beatles' Producer Pippa Harris Shares Update on Sam Mendes Film Series, Explains Breakthrough Release Strategy - LFF

"We're on day 180 of filming today," Pippa Harris, producer of Sam Mendes' Beatles - a four-film event, said with a wry smile during a professional Q&A at the London Film Festival this afternoon. "I'm off for this hour and I'll be back after that. It's a big effort."

"We're on day 180 of shooting today," said Pippa Harris, producer of Sam Mendes' Beatles - a four-film event, during a professional Q&A at the London Film Festival this afternoon.

Before politely fielding specific questions about the movies, Harris continued, "I'm off for this hour and I'll be back after that. It's a big effort." However, Harris talked about the unique release strategy behind the films. All four of Mendes' Beatles films will hit theaters in April 2028, which Mendes described at CinemaCon 2025 as the first "edible moment in cinema". "Right now, the films are coming out in 2028 and we want people to be able to experience them in the cinema at the same time and in the same period," Harris told the audience at LFF. Watch on Deadline

Now that doesn't necessarily mean that we think people are going to go and see all four movies in one day. But in the same month, you might see one a week, or you might see a movie on a weekend and see another.

The Beatles - A Four Movie Event Starring Joseph Queen as George Harrison, Paul Mescall as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon. The films are essentially four separate biopics about the British quartet.

"They stand alone as individual stories of each of those four men, but they have a cumulative power that I think is greater than the sum of the parts," Harris said of the four films.

Harris added: "They're the biggest band ever and we're trying to do everything we can to do them justice. So that's four movies. I don't think there's probably another band that you can legitimately say you want to see four movies about."

Mendes is directing the film from a screenplay written by Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan and Jack Thorne. The films are produced by Mendes, Harris and Julie Pastor of Neal Street, as well as Alexandra Derbyshire in association with Apple Corps for Sony Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Entertainment and Mendes' Neal Street Productions. This is the first time that The Beatles and Apple have given permission to use the life stories and music of the band members in feature films.
