FARAJA Road Police Chief Announces Controversial Halt of Technically Faulty Buses in the Past 24 Hours and Referral of Responsible Managers to Court

Referring to the importance of the safety of the public transport fleet, Colonel Siavash Mohebi said: every year, about 155 million passengers are transported in the form of 15 million services through the public transport fleet; A statistic that doubles the necessity of continuous monitoring of the technical condition of this fleet and compliance with safety requirements. He added: Considering the importance of the passengers' health and the necessity of their safe arrival at their destination, today, together with the colleagues of the Highways and Road Transport Organization, we visited the bus fleet of the West Tehran passenger terminal and we also held a training course for the technical managers of the passenger companies. In this program, there was a close discussion with the officials and those involved in the fleet and we emphasized the necessity of carefully controlling the technical condition of the buses before starting the trip.

The head of the Faraja highway police stated that the public passenger transport fleet is more important than private cars in terms of safety, and stated: the dimensions and capacity of these vehicles, long navigation in different axes and the simultaneous movement of a large number of passengers make the possible consequences of an accident with buses more serious. In this fleet, the life and health of a large number of citizens depends on the quality of driving and the technical health of the vehicle. Colonel Mohebi emphasized: passenger health should be the main priority of passenger transport companies, not just the number of trips and the amount of passenger movement. Accordingly, before the start of each trip, the technical manager of the passenger company is required to check the bus at the origin and the passenger terminal from the point of view of technical and safety. Referring to the necessary items in the technical inspection of buses, he said: technical and lighting systems, cooling system in summer, heating system in winter, tires, steering equipment, glasses and other components affecting safety must be carefully controlled. It should also be ensured that the standard parts of the car have not been tampered with and that the vehicle has the necessary technical conditions for traffic. The head of the Faraja highway police noted: Only after ensuring the technical health of the bus, permission to move and transfer passengers should be issued. In the event of an accident caused by a technical defect or failure to fulfill legal duties, the technical manager of the passenger company, the driver and the owner of the bus must be held accountable and, depending on the case, their share of fault in the accident will be investigated and the guilty persons will be presented to the judicial authorities. According to the regulations, the police will deal with the people who have committed negligence in this field. Referring to the share of the public passenger transport fleet in road accidents, Colonel Mohibi stated: this fleet accounts for about one percent of all accidents every year; However, even the occurrence of an accident and endangering one's life is important. Our goal is to minimize the accidents related to this fleet by strengthening the safety controls and monitoring and to try to reduce it to zero. He further pointed to the police monitoring of buses along the route and said: Currently, the drivers of the public passenger transport fleet are required to register their departure time at the traffic police stations and the buses are also visited at these stations. The head of the Faraja Highway Police added: Last hour, our colleagues in several provinces identified a number of buses due to technical defects and due to the necessity of maintaining the safety of passengers, they were prevented from continuing their movement. With the coordination of the Highways and Road Transport Organization, alternative buses were planned to transport passengers to their destination so that while preventing the traffic of unsafe fleets, the movement of passengers would not face any problems. In the end, Colonel Mohibi advised the technical managers of passenger companies and bus drivers to carry out technical inspections with full care and responsibility and not to allow the departure of buses with technical defects affecting safety. And negligence in this field will be dealt with according to laws and regulations.
