Interesting creativity of an architect in South Korea to build a church (+ photo)

The severe budget constraint led the designers of the prayer space of "Heaven's Voice" to eliminate decorations and focus on the architectural form. This 190 square meter project with a meditation path, a narrow entrance and a consular structure reflects the concepts related to prayer and the cross in Christianity in its design.

Ambassador Arjan - The "Voice of the Sky" prayer space at Handong University in South Korea is a project of "ITM Yuehova" architecture office, which was formed with the financial assistance of one of the elders of a local church.

In addition to being in a convenient location, the location of the architectural project can also be seen from the buildings around the university. The goal of the architect was that the shape of the cross could be recognized from the sky instead of being seen from the human eye level.

The severe limitation of the budget was one of the effective factors in the formation of the project design. For this reason, it was decided that instead of spending money on finishes and decorations, the architectural form of the building should carry the meaning.

Also, instead of including all possible functions in the building, the main focus was on its role as a space for Christian prayer.

Accordingly, a path for meditation and prayer began at the foot of the hill. The base of the hill became the starting point of this path, and ramps were designed around the building to create a path of reflection between the interior and exterior spaces.

The width of the entrance to the prayer space is considered to be approximately the size of a corridor. Although these dimensions seem relatively narrow for the main entrance of the building, this feature is intentionally designed so that people can enter the space one by one and preserve the sanctity of the prayer environment.

Inside this small space, the columns have been removed and a cantilever structure has been used instead. This decision was made with the aim of representing the concept of the weight of the cross in Christianity.

The design of the prayer space of "Heaven's Voice" was carried out by "ITM Yehova" architecture office, and "Yehova Yu" was the main architect of the project.

This project has been implemented in 2023 and in an area equal to 190 square meters in Pohang, South Korea. The images of the project were also recorded by "Yongkwan Kim".
