Olivier Richters, the actor who plays Zangief, really wants to play Tyr in the God of War live-action series.

We had the chance to chat with Olivier Richter on the Street Fighter red carpet, who told us he'd love to play Tyr in Prime Video's live-action God of War series.
Richter is a great man. At over seven feet tall and over 350 pounds, it makes sense why he was cast as Zangief in Street Fighter — and why he'd want to try his hand at Tyr.
In fact, he was credited for not doing the role of Kratos when Ryan Hurst, who had previously been cast in the role, had to leave the project due to a severe biceps injury while filming a stunt for the series.
"I think I can be open [about it]," he told us. "I did an audition. I actually went up the chain, I even called twice, and finally they cast Dave Bautista. Much respect to him, he's a great choice. Of course, in some universes if he didn't exist, I would have loved to play the role. Maybe in the future.
Every year I act, I learn more and more. If I'm really honest, I think there's one character that suits me the most and that's Tyr. I like to play him. I don't know if he's going to be in season one or season two, but my agent told them, "Olive wants to be Tyre." So, let's see if that happens."
Richters mentioned this on his Instagram account in February, showing himself in a Kratos game. "Really... at 7'2" / 2.18m, I might be too big for the role. I want literally more than any other character. My real dream? A chance to audition Týr. "I think that would be great."
While his future on the God of War show is currently unclear, he is now in the spotlight as Zangief in the new Street Fighter movie. In fact, he's already training in Street Fighter 6 with some seasoned pros who hope to "best" Zangief in all areas — not just in the movies.
"I'm not going to lie - I'm really dedicated to becoming one of the best Zangifs," he revealed. I'm not there yet, but I want to enter a tournament once as the real Zangief playing Zangief. I just met a professional Zangif player, we talked and we will train together. "If there's going to be a second [film], I want to be the best Zangief."
As a member of the fighting game community, I can definitely say that we welcome Richter with open arms and can't wait to see him in a big match one day. Maybe Evo 2027?
