The launch of the new outlet represents ESPN's latest effort to bring young kids and their families to its screens. In the past few years, Disney's sports division has used Marvel superheroes, Toy Story and Inside Out characters and the popular Big City Greens characters for alternate telecasts of basketball and hockey games, among other events.

The channel will have an original animated series, The Sports Explorers, starring an "ESPN squad." Ez, Shay, PJ and Nora each bring unique perspectives to the world of sports and help young fans discover new games. The series was developed through a creative partnership between ESPN and WSC Studios, the creative production arm of WSC Sports.

ESPN says new videos will be added regularly.
