The constant increase in the price of cars under the microscope of the parliament; Why doesn't anyone put a brake on prices?

The car market is still facing increasing prices and decreasing people's purchasing power; A situation that has led to the criticism of parliamentarians on the performance of car manufacturers and supervisory bodies. The continuous increase in car prices under the microscope of the parliament; Why doesn't anyone put a brake on prices? It first appeared in Safir Arjan.

According to Ambassador Arjan, the increase in the price of domestic cars, along with the decrease in people's purchasing power, has once again led to the criticism of the MPs on the state of the car market. The representatives believe that in a situation where car prices are constantly increasing, monitoring the performance of car manufacturers and how to supply products is not effective enough, and problems such as delays in car delivery and import barriers continue.

In this regard, a few days ago, the parliament's Industries and Mines Commission, after examining the situation of car production and import, demanded the responsible bodies to respond and follow up on the causes of the disorder in the market. The representatives in that meeting emphasized that the government should prevent the uncontrolled increase in prices by more seriously monitoring the car manufacturers and implementing the existing laws, and provide conditions so that it is not more difficult for people to buy a car.

Criticism of the representatives of the uncontrolled increase in car prices

One of the main points of criticism of the representatives is the increase in car prices due to currency fluctuations and the economic conditions of the country. They believe that the increase in the exchange rate should not be used as an excuse to increase the prices of domestic products, especially since some of the cars were produced before these conditions and the parts needed by them were already available to the automakers.

Mohammad Motamedizadeh, a member of the 90th Principle Commission of the Islamic Council and a representative of the people of Sirjan, criticized the unrestrained increase in car prices, referring to the meetings held by this commission with the Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade, officials of the Central Bank, Customs and other related institutions.

Stating that currency fluctuations and war conditions should not provide a basis for car manufacturers to abuse, he said: the price of some domestic cars has reached two to three billion tomans and even higher in a short period of time. A situation which, according to him, severely affects the purchasing power of the middle and poor sections of the society.

Motamedizadeh emphasized that the Central Bank, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance, and the Ministry of Security should be accountable for the current situation and not delegate their responsibility to each other. According to him, the 90th principle commission has held several meetings about the automobile case and is still following this issue.

Ali Haddadi, a member of the Board of Directors of the Parliament's Industries and Mines Commission, also criticized the high cost of domestic cars and said: Car manufacturers have increased the prices of their products at various stages and on various pretexts, without achieving a proportionate improvement in quality.

Referring to the increase in the price of cars at the beginning of the recent war on the pretext of a shortage of sheet steel, he stated that the car manufacturers had received a quota of sheets and this product was also offered in the stock market in sufficient quantity, so the cars that were produced months ago should not be offered with multiple price increases in the current situation.

Reza Taghipour, a member of the Parliament's Industries and Mines Commission, also criticized the dependence of the car price on the exchange rate.

Pointing out that the majority of car parts are produced inside the country, he considered it a wrong action to depend the price of domestic products on the dollar and said: fair pricing should lead to securing the interests of the people, not imposing sudden and unreasonable increases on consumers.

weak supervision and multiplicity of responsible institutions; The car market is waiting for a response

Along with economic factors, the weakness of monitoring the performance of car manufacturers and the car market is one of the most important issues that the representatives emphasize. From their point of view, when the responsible institutions do not use their legal tools to control the price, the way of supply and compliance with obligations, the ground is created for the uncontrolled increase of prices and the activities of dealers.

Criticizing the diminution of the government's role in the governance of the automobile industry, Taghipour said: "The Ministry of Safety, as the regulator of this field, should use its powers." According to him, this ministry can include the necessary requirements in the activity license of car manufacturers and in case of violation, oblige them to comply with the regulations with heavy fines.

Haddadi also placed the responsibility of direct supervision in this field on the responsibility of the Ministry of Silence and emphasized the necessity of role-playing by the Organization for the Development and Modernization of Iranian Industries, the Organization for the Protection of Consumers and Producers, and the Competition Council. He listed the lack of a comprehensive system for daily monitoring of the market as one of the problems of this sector and said: Creating such a system can help control the market situation and prevent the abuse of dealers.

Criticizing the lack of serious monitoring of the car market, Motamedizadeh believes that the government should not allow some people to increase prices by abusing the conditions of the country and the war atmosphere and take advantage of this situation. He called for serious management of the market and transparent accountability of the responsible institutions.

Car importation; Emphasis on economic cars

Importing cars is another point of disagreement and criticism of the representatives. The purpose of imports, according to their statements, should be to increase competition, improve quality and help reduce prices, but the problems related to order registration, currency allocation, tariffs and how to implement laws have made the realization of these goals ambiguous.

Abolqasem Jarareh, a member of the Parliament's Industries and Mines Commission, emphasized that the legislator's priority was to improve the quality and reduce the prices of cars, and said: the import of economic cars should be provided so that people are not deprived of access to high-quality cars.

Referring to the economic conditions and the reduction of people's purchasing power, he considered it necessary to impose restrictions on the import of luxury cars and emphasized: Identifiable foreign exchange resources can be directed in such a way as to help solve the internal problems of the automobile industry and secure the interests of different sections of the society.

Motamedizadeh also considered facilitating the import of high-quality cars, even used cars, as one of the solutions to break the prices. From his point of view, increasing the supply of imported cars can reduce the pressure on the domestic market. He also considered the supply of cars and parts that were previously produced or supplied with new prices as one of the things that increase the need to monitor the market.

In the same context, Seyyed Ehsan Ghazizadeh Hashemi, a member of the Parliament's Industries and Mines Commission, criticized the lack of a single road map in the Ministry of Security to manage car imports. Referring to the multiplicity of registration systems and ambiguity in the basis of some import criteria, he demanded clarification about licenses, tariffs and the way of currency allocation.

Ghazizadeh Hashemi also criticized car depots in free zones and the difference in prices of imported cars and said: Ministry of Security should provide clear and documented information about the implementation of import laws and the amount of foreign exchange of cars.

Dissatisfaction of people with pre-sale and car delivery

The problems of the car market are not only limited to the prices, and the delay in car delivery, pre-sales and uncertainty in the performance of some companies have also fueled the dissatisfaction of the applicants.

Ghazizadeh Hashemi criticized the repetition of complaints about empty sales and the prolongation of the judicial process of car cases. According to him, in some cases, after paying money and following up for a long time, the applicants are faced with the title of lost property; A process that shows the necessity of coordinating executive and judicial bodies and adopting preventive measures.

The parliament is looking to investigate the actions of the automotive officials

Following the continuation of problems in the car market, a few days ago, the Parliament's Industries and Mines Commission put on the agenda the review of the performance of the responsible bodies and how to implement the laws. In the meeting of this commission, with the presence of members of Parliament, officials of the Ministry of Security, regulatory institutions, representatives of parts manufacturers and car manufacturers, it was emphasized on the formation of a special working group to investigate the negligence of officials in the field of car production, import and distribution.

In that meeting, Ruhollah Abbaspour, the vice-chairman of the Parliament's Industries and Mines Commission, pointed to the non-implementation of some approved laws in the automobile field, and considered it necessary to investigate the automobile field.

According to him, a comprehensive report on the state of domestic cars, import problems and the reasons for the non-implementation of the preparation laws and its results should be presented in the parliament so that further follow-ups can be done through the judiciary.

Zahra Saeedi, spokesperson of the Industries and Mines Commission, also emphasized the need to clarify the performance of car manufacturers.

He said that the amount of production, the process of importing cars and the allocation of currency should be clarified and the problems related to order registration and allocation of foreign exchange resources should be addressed in coordination with the Ministry of Security and the Central Bank. Saidi also emphasized that the process of registration and delivery of the car should be transparent and observable.

Car market control depends on supervision and accountability

According to the criticisms raised about the state of the car market, the parliament is looking to investigate the problems of this industry and hold the responsible bodies accountable through its monitoring tools and following up the issue in specialized commissions. The increase in car prices, delays in product delivery, import problems, and non-implementation of some laws are among the issues that the representatives emphasize the necessity of addressing. However, it is important that these pursuits lead to tangible results and that people actually feel the improvement of the market situation.

In the meantime, the government and supervisory bodies must also perform their duties more seriously and supervise the pricing, the way the car is supplied, and the obligations of the car manufacturers. Supporting domestic production should not mean ignoring the rights of consumers; People expect to receive a product of acceptable quality and on time for the price they pay for buying a car. Finally, the supervision of the parliament, along with the serious action of the government and the responsible institutions, can help to better control the market and reduce the problems of buyers, so that buying a domestic car does not become more difficult for middle-income and low-income families.
