Trump says he has no plans to impose sanctions against Russia

The order states that this is in the national interest of the United States

Washington, October 17. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump will not apply several sanctions based on the Sanctions Act against Russia by issuing an executive order.

"I hereby waive the imposition of such sanctions, restrictions, and duties as are provided for in the Graham Act. I have certified to Congress that it is in the national interest of the United States to grant such a waiver at this time," the document posted on the White House website said.

According to Article 115, the president has the right to waive the sanctions and obligations stipulated in the law. To do so, he must provide a justification to Congress that such a decision is in the national interest of the United States.

On September 18, Trump signed a bill passed by Congress that imposes sanctions on Russia's top political and military leadership, state-owned enterprises, as well as secondary sanctions on Russia's business partners. According to the document, within 30 days of signing — or by Oct. 18 — the Washington administration must determine which companies and individuals may be subject to restrictions or determine that such new restrictive measures are not in the best interests of the United States and notify Congress accordingly.
