Ego Nwodim, former SNL star, responds to Shane Gillis's controversial joke about women
The comedian faces backlash over a joke he made during his opening monologue on "SNL" over the weekend.
Ego Nwodim had a strong reaction to Shane Gillis after his controversial monologue on Saturday Night Live.
After hosting NBC's sketch comedy show on Saturday, the comedian took heat for his joke about women who work out.
"I haven't been to a club in so long, I didn't know women were dressing like whores now," Gillis told the live audience. "Look, I'm sorry, there's no other way to describe [it]. Have you seen it? I've seen it. The shorts? Have you seen the shorts? They're neon, like fake bait? And the wrinkles go around the cheeks and they all blend together in the hole. And don't look. The background of 10 TikToks right now."

Dan Levy slams Shane Gillis' 'SNL' joke about women in club: 'Speechless that can exist'
In response, Nwodim shared a photo of herself at the gym on her Instagram story on Monday with the caption, "Whore reporting for duty." In another post, she shared a photo of her post-workout meal and added, "Getting 30 grams of protein after digesting."
Nwodim was a cast member of SNL for seven seasons, from 2018 to 2025. He left the series before season 51.
His comments came after Schitt's Creek creator and star Dan Levy also slammed Gillis for his joke about women. Women wearing shorts at the gym doesn't make them whores, it makes men call them misogynistic whores. He wrote in part of this letter.
Levy added in his Instagram post: “I have no idea that something like this is on live national television. And to be perfectly honest, more men need to stand up to it, because it's self-indulgence that has created an environment where women are sexually assaulted and it's a "conversation" as opposed to a "crime."
