Velo recently released a new update for the beta version of the Steam client, which brings extensive changes to the way achievements are displayed.

From now on, developers can create exclusive sets of achievements for their games; Collections dedicated to, for example, mastering a certain character class or completing the single-player story section of the game. Also, the system allows for the separation of main game achievements from DLC achievements and seasonal events.

Previously, when you unlocked all achievements in a game, the number 100% would be displayed in your achievements list. However, if the game later received a new expansion pack that included new achievements, the completion percentage would decrease accordingly. It's understandable why this would be annoying for players who care about collecting all the achievements; Because maybe a person has no desire to experience the expansion pack, but still wants to keep the 100% completion of the game in his portfolio. The new update fixes this problem; Of course, provided that the developers are willing to use the new system.

There is a similar situation with Seasonal Achievements; This feature can be very useful for the Battle Pass system. To explain its function, Velo gave an example of a collection called Halloween Event Achievements. This collection includes achievements that can only be obtained during a certain time period and does not affect the number of achievements in the main game. In other words, if you're interested in completing all achievements but decide to skip a chapter, your main game completion stats will not be affected.

These changes have also led to a redesign of the Steam Achievements page. Most of the information related to the achievements, such as your overall progress in the game and the status of your progress in unlocking each achievement, are now displayed on one screen.

One of the new features that attracts more attention than others is the ability to directly and simultaneously compare your achievements with up to three of your friends. As seen in the lower part of the image of the new user interface, users can check the status of their achievements along with the progress of their friends. This feature and the feature of separating the achievements of the add-on packages have been on the PlayStation platform for some time. Now, by adding these features, Volvo has reduced the distance between Steam and similar features on Sony consoles.

Naturally, not all games on Steam are equipped with the new achievements system yet. However, the list of titles that currently support this feature is as follows:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight

The new achievements system is still in beta. Users can get access to these features earlier than others by signing up for the beta version of the Steam client or wait for the release of the public version. Based on Volvo's previous experience, it probably won't be a long wait to access these features. For example, Steam's new screen saver feature was first released in beta. We expect this trial period to last about a month.
