Ralph Fiennes Stars in and Executive Produces Horse Racing Drama “Unbroken” for StudioCanal, Producer of “Conclave”
He plays Sir Henry Cecil, the legendary horse trainer, while Nora Fingscheidt, director of “Outrun,” will helm the film, with shooting set for 2027.
Ralph Fiennes is set to star in Unbeaten, a theatrical film from House Productions, produced by Conclave, StudioCanal and Escapade Pictures.
The Conclave actor will play legendary racehorse trainer Henry Cecil in his final years as he emerges from shame, reunites with the love of his life, Jane, and begins a partnership with racehorse Frankel, according to a synopsis from producers. It turned Cecil Frankel into a champion racehorse, unbeaten in all 14 starts and a final victory in the Champion Stakes at Ascot's iconic racecourse.

Zurich summit game-changer Glenn Bassner and Edward Berger reminisce about a wild 'conclave'
The film is in advanced development based on a screenplay by Bash Doran and will be directed by BAFTA winner Nora Fingscheid (Outrun). Fiennes, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Edward Berger in the drama, said, "Until I read Bash Duran's script, I knew nothing about the legendary Henry Cecil. I had to and was moved by it and the story of Henry with Frankel's great horse. Henry was - and still is - a unique, complex and competitive character in the very special world of horse racing." said in a statement.
Among his other works are Windmill Heights, The Race Show, The English Patient, Schindler's List, In Bruges, The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Menu.
The film reunites Fiennes with Ross' House Productions, who also produced Conclave. Rory Aitken of Escapade Pictures and 42 will also produce. StudioCanal is fully financing the project, handling global sales and is set to release Unbeaten in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Benelux, Australia and New Zealand.
Unbeaten is also supported in development by BBC Films and Access Entertainment (Conclave, The Zone of Interest). It is co-produced by Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern, Joe Naftalin, Fiennes and Doran.
