Tehran Police Sets Fine Rates for Motorcycle Plate Violations

Tehran Traffic Police Chief Bozorg added: If a plate is covered, a traffic violation has occurred. But if a plate is deliberately defaced or its numbers altered, in addition to a violation, a crime has been committed and the driver is criminally liable.

Sardar Seyyed Abulfazl Mousavipour, the head of the Greater Tehran Traffic Police, announced the statistics of motorcycle license plate violations in the first half of 1405.

According to the report of Ambassador Arjan, the head of Tehran Traffic Police stated: Car or motorcycle license plate is the identity card, identity and ownership document of the vehicle.

Sardar Mousavipour added: The violations of motorcycle license plates include installing different license plates or changing the standard of the vehicle license plate, driving a vehicle with an unauthorized license plate or an unreplaced license plate belonging to the previous owner, not having a front, rear or illegible license plate, changing the location of the vehicle license plate and covering, manipulating or distorting the vehicle license plate or placing any object that obstructs the visibility of the vehicle license plate.

He clarified: Among these, the most violations were related to not having a front, rear or illegible number plate with more than 92 thousand items and covering, manipulating or distorting the number plate with more than 16 thousand items.

The head of the Greater Tehran Traffic Police added: If the license plate is covered, a traffic violation has been committed. But if distorting the license plate or tampering with its numbers is done intentionally, in addition to the violation, a crime has also been committed and the driver is guilty.

Citing Article 720 of the Islamic Penal Code, Sardar Mousavipour noted: Any person who changes the numbers and specifications of a motor vehicle license plate, or attaches another vehicle's license plate to it, or uses a fake license plate, will be sentenced to six months to one year in prison.

According to the tariff of traffic crimes, Sardar Mousavipour announced the fines for license plate violations and said: installation of miscellaneous license plates or changing the standard is 350 thousand tomans, not having a front or rear license plate or illegible license plate is 400 thousand tomans, and covering, manipulating or distorting a license plate has a fine of 700 thousand tomans.

Sardar Mousavipour further added: Motorcycle riders who cover or deface their license plates, mostly do this for violations such as crossing a red light, entering a traffic plan, and crossing special lanes. But in some cases, covering the license plate is known as a prelude to committing more serious crimes such as theft, and the police deal with it severely and introduce the criminals to the judicial system.

In the end, Sardar Mousavipour said: The license plate, birth certificate and identity of your vehicle. Covering the license plate means escaping from the law and manipulating its numbers means entering the crime valley. Every time you cover the license plate, you're actually telling yourself I'm not responsible. Keep the license plate legible, mount it in a standard location, and know that the slightest tampering with the license plate will get you convicted.
