Valve has released the CAD files for the Steam Frame, giving contributors a great opportunity to get their work done for the VR headset.

The light blocker—the piece that sits between the bridge of your nose and the headset—is designed to be user-replaceable, as is the headband, battery compartment, face interface, and more. This CAD version includes a large amount along with the main module and controllers.

Valve has confirmed that it is working on an upgraded headband with replaceable batteries and out-of-ear speakers for the Steam Frame. This is "soon". With this CAD version, we may see more options for third parties in the future.

The documentation also explains how to connect to the development port, or what Valve calls the auxiliary port. It sits right in front of the user's nose and is a way for the user to add powerful accessories, for example the Arcturus Vision RGB camera — I've been playing with it for a few weeks now and it's a pretty cool upgrade. With a Gen4 PCIe lane in addition to power and camera functionality, all of which are specified in the documentation, more can be done with the port. I just hope someone runs with it.

With this release, Valve has made available a full sweep of CAD files for all of their latest products. There's the Steam Deck, the Steam Machine, the Steam Controller, and now the Steam Frame. This is how it should be done, people.
