Jeremy Renner says the Avengers will fail on Judgment Day and it's "their fault" because they didn't call Hawkeye.

Marvel star Jeremy Renner said the Avengers will fail on Doomsday, and it's "their fault" because they didn't call his Hawkeye.

Marvel star Jeremy Renner said that the Avengers will fail on Doomsday, and that it's "their fault" for not contacting Hawkeye.

The Avengers star confirmed that he won't be helping out in the fight against Doctor Doom's attempt to take over the multiverse during what appeared to be a Q&A segment last month. In a key segment of the interview that was recorded and shared on X/Twitter by user @drdoomarchive, Renner confirmed that he will not be in Avengers: Doomsday this December.

This may come as a disappointment to fans of his archery hero, especially given some of his previous teases that suggest he may reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Alas, his long-awaited return as Hawkeye appears to be on hold. He doesn't seem too bitter about his absence, but that doesn't mean he isn't willing to give the team a few shots.

"Doomsday, I'm not in," Renner said. "So the Avengers will probably lose, just so you know."

"They didn't call me, so it's their fault they're losing," he added with a laugh.

Despite not having the superpowers of the Hulk or the ability to alter reality like the Scarlet Witch, Renner's take on Clint Barton has remained a favorite of MCU fans since he first appeared as the character in 2011's Thor. He eventually graduated from that cameo to becoming a prominent hero in projects like The Avengers Original, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War, and he also ended up leading the Disney+ 2021 series Hawkeye as the main character. However, he doesn't always show up for every fight with evil.

Renner infamously participated in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, in which a group of heroes and stars actually lost their first fight by smashing half the universe into dust. The running joke is, well, if Hawkeye was around to help, Thanos wouldn't be so lucky. Now that the character seems to have been shelved again for Doomsday, Renner can't help but see what's coming.

Of course, he showed up to help end the fight for the Infinity Stones in Avengers: Endgame, which accidentally won the day's heroes (for the most part). With the re-release of Encore last month, Marvel invited fans to revisit the epic final story. Renner said he was excited to see it in theaters at the time.

"They're releasing Encore of Endgame, I think next week or something, right?" he said "I'm really excited to see it. I'm taking my daughter to see it. She was a little young when it came out before, so I'm excited that it's coming out."

With Renner set to debut in Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026, it remains to be seen if he'll return to his superhero costume for 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars. His future as the character is largely unclear, though comments he made in 2025 suggested he'd be open to returning for Hawkeye Season 2. Other than that show, which also starred Hayley, however, Steinfeld as Kate Bishop seems to be on the back burner for now.
