Billy Evans, Elizabeth Holmes' partner on the "All-In" podcast just as the Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim documentary "You Can See Everything" opens in theaters, explains why the couple let a camera crew into the house in the days leading up to Holmes' incarceration. Evans has yet to see the film, which has received worldwide acclaim and Oscar buzz since its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival last month.
"Elizabeth is facing 11 years in prison," Evans said. "He has been barred from speaking publicly in any way, shape or form, and that will become apparent after the time he has now been allowed to speak." "There's been a lot of media generated about him. There's been a lot of people who have told his story. It's been completely distorted. The whole idea was he's here, see him and make up your own mind. This is not to re-open the case. He wasn't actually allowed to talk about the case at this time, so he wasn't going to talk about the rules." "It was for people to see who he was," he continued. I've had this consistent experience with the people who love me the most, from my grandmother to my best friends. They've heard that I know [Elizabeth Holmes] or I'm in love with this person and now we're having a baby...At first, every single one of these people thought I was crazy. "Do you know who he is?" I would tell them, "I know why you feel that way, but you're just meeting him." And they would meet him and spend time with him and see him in a completely natural setting, like going for a walk or helping a friend. Any opinion about him changes radically. That was the purpose of the film. To help grow it and let other people sit down with him and make up their own minds.” Popular in Variety
However, the Holmes and Evans decision seems to be backfiring. "You can see everything" has only intensified the backlash and mistrust of Holmes, the former CEO of Theranos. Even before the film was released to the press, A24 released an exciting trailer that upset many viewers with Holmes' behavior and claimed that he did nothing wrong in Theronos.
"I haven't seen it. "I might think it's the stupidest thing I've ever done." Evans said on the podcast that Holmes "looks crazy" in the trailer and acknowledged that "especially the music" in the clip has an anti-Holmes bent.
"Am I nervous? I've had so many intense, surreal experiences that it takes a while to get my blood pressure up," Evans said.
Holmes and Evans met in 2017 and welcomed their first child, William, in 2021. Their daughter, Invicta, was born in 2023. Watch Evans' full interview on the show's "All-In" podcast. Video below
