SteelSeries currently has a line of gaming controllers including the Stratus and Nimbus. However, the Aeon Pro is the company's first premium controller. Honestly, this is shaping up to be one of the best PC and Xbox controllers ever. IGN's Bo Moore has already posted his review of the Aeon Pro, and his initial impressions are fantastic.
Among the array of features packed into the Aeon Pro, one in particular stands out and that is the infinite battery system. It's essentially a hot-swappable battery system, very similar to what you'll find in the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro and Omni headsets, which are, in my opinion, one of the best gaming headsets on the market. The Aeon Pro basically consists of two removable, rechargeable batteries: one for use in the controller and one to stay charged and ready for use in the docking station, which doubles as a charger. You get wireless freedom with zero downtime.
Another outstanding feature of the Aeon Pro is its patented QuickSwitch system. You can instantly and seamlessly switch between Xbox, PC or mobile, without the need to pair or reconnect. How does this even work? It's very simple, actually. Besides being a charger for your batteries, the docking station is also a kind of hub. You connect your Xbox and PC via the USB Type-C port on the back, and then the controller connects wirelessly to the dock. For mobile phones, the connection is made via Bluetooth. Again, I've seen this technology before in the Arctis Nova Pro Omni headset, and SteelSeries carried over the feature to the Aeon Pro. This is a great brain move.
Hall effect and micro switches throughout
My favorite game controllers of the past have two things in common: a hall-effect joystick and mechanical switches for almost all of its buttons (including the d-pad). The Aeon Pro does not disappoint. Both joysticks use Hall Effect magnetic sensors. These are superior to traditional potentiometer-based analog sensors. In addition to being more accurate and sensitive, they have no moving parts to wear and are therefore naturally resistant to wood drift.
16 total buttons adjustable via OLED screen or GG app
The Aeon Pro has a d-pad and twelve programmable buttons, all of which use satisfying mechanical switches. These include: four XYAB buttons, four trigger buttons and four rear paddle switches. Two of the trigger buttons also feature adjustable travel length; With the flick of a switch, you can choose full travel or hair trigger. All buttons can be customized using the OLED display on the controller or through the Steelseries GG app.
Are you longing for interchangeable thumbsticks? Aeon Pro also has this. There are four different styles of modular thumbsticks included in the package that you can swap out: Convex, Concave, Standard Length, and Long. They simply slide into any of the joystick positions and are a nice touch you'll only find on premium controllers.
It's not cheap, but great things are few and far between.
I have seen and tested many racing controllers, but none with all the technology found in the Aeon Pro. Yes, it's expensive, but if you're a heavy gamer who uses a controller for hundreds of hours, it's worth it.
