Exclusive: Watch Johnny Depp's Transformation into Ebenezer Scrooge | IGN Fall Fan Fest 2026
An exclusive look at Johnny Depp's extensive makeup transformation into Ebenezer Scrooge for the upcoming film Ebenezer, plus the film's new poster.
Johnny Depp's take on the classic A Christmas Carol story comes next month, but we have an exclusive look at his transformation into the iconic Ebenezer Scrooge just in time for IGN Fan Fest.
Depp stars in the upcoming film Ebenezer, and as you can see in the exclusive video below, he underwent extensive makeup and prosthetics for the role.
"Honestly, the first time I saw him in full makeup, I didn't recognize him," says Depp's co-star Trammell Tillman, who plays the Ghost of Christmas Present. Johnny was really excited to play Scrooge in his own way.
"Johnny really embraces the makeup process," says Barry Gower, the film's prosthetics designer. He suggests things like moles. "He wanted his chin to be a little taller, anything we could add to the character."
In addition to a brand new look at the film, we can exclusively reveal a new poster for Ebenezer, which you can check out below. The image shows a close-up of Depp's Scrooge, along with Tillman's Ghost of Christmas Present, Ghost of Christmas Future (Robert Strange) and Ghost of Christmas Past (Andrea Riseborough).
Depp's co-stars in the film say the actor, known for his shape-shifting looks for roles such as Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean and the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, relished the opportunity to tackle the character.
"I think he brings something unique to everything he does," says Rupert Grint, who plays Bob Cratchit in the film. "I think it's a great role for him."
"Johnny is performing like you've never seen before," says Ian McKellen, who plays Marley. But that's what you'd expect from Johnny Depp, right? He is full of surprises."
"This is Johnny doing what Johnny does best," says Daisy Ridley, who plays Clara. Who are these larger than life characters with a real human touch?
Ebenezer hits theaters on November 13.
