Jordan Firstman brings the "Club Kid" to the club.
A24 is set to hold free screenings of Firstman's feature film debut "Club Kid" for nightlife communities in 12 US cities including Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Philadelphia, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, DC.
This activation is in partnership with Resident Advisor, a global online platform about electronic music, DJs and club scenes. Related Stories Russell Brand's criminal trial in London began on charges of rape and sexual assault.
Shows will take place the week of October 24th at 7pm, leaving plenty of time for the kids to get to their club that night. Popular in Variety
"Club Kid" stars Firstman, who also wrote the screenplay, as a New York City nightlife promoter whose world is turned upside down when he discovers he is the father of a 10-year-old boy (Reggie Absolum). The actors of this film include Diego Calva, Cara Delevingne, Paris Pattijn, Colin Camp, Kirby Howell Baptiste, Vicky Pepperdine, Nigel White, Eldar Isgandarov, Southern Raisin 9, Miss Benny and Alaska Riley.
After a six-minute ovation at its Cannes Film Festival premiere in May, Club Kid was acquired by A24 for $17 million after a heated bidding war with Mubi, Focus Features, Searchlight, A24 and Netflix. Warner Brothers' new indie label Clockwork and Neon were also early suitors.
"This has really been the best week of my life," Firstman told Matt Donnelly shortly after signing the A24 contract. It was so beautiful to see my mom here, my non-binary sibling who lives a different queer lifestyle. Watching people fall in love with Diego Calva. I saw a few posts [about myself] saying, "Oh my God, that makes him such a monster." But I feel the opposite. I don't want to whine. I'm just so grateful."
"Club Kid" opens in limited release on November 6.
