Apple's HomeView smart home display announced today comes in two models, both priced at $299: one with a speaker stand and the other a self-explanatory "wall" version. However, if you want the latter, you'll actually have to pay at least $59 more — the mounts needed to attach the display to your wall are sold separately. Perhaps naming that version "Mountless" would have been more accurate?

Apple isn't exactly clamoring for that silly extra premium for in-wall HomeView customers. The details are in the small print at the bottom of the product announcement page:

HomeView (wall) will be available with a choice of tripod mounts from Schneider Home. The USB-C Wall Mount with Power Mount is available for $59.95 (US) and the Power Mount AC Wired is available for $79.95 (US). Ordered today from and in the Apple Store app. The PoE Wired Power Mount will be available in early 2027 for $129.95 (US).

It will also be revealed when you go through the process of adding HomeView to your shopping cart on the Apple Web Store. You'll be asked to choose from the available mounting options (which don't yet include the PoE Wired Power Mount), which add up to $299 each, or to choose 'No mount' to continue without paying extra – but Apple makes it clear in that option that 'HomeView (pictures on the wall) requires a mounting and power solution to work.

Considering you don't have the funky iMac G4-style speaker stand, Apple seems to be charging the same price for half the product. Image: Apple / The Verge

Since it doesn't come with a power supply, you can't lean the HomeView wall-mounted model on something or place it on a flat surface to avoid extra charges. You also can't buy the desktop model that doesn't have the extras and ditch the speaker stand because it can't be converted to a wall-mounted version. They are two separate versions and the wall option is only offered in two colors. It's likely that some third-party manufacturers will offer more affordable wall-mount options over time, but either way, those who want to wall-mount their HomeView will pay a premium over those who opt for the desktop model.
