First Two Seasons of God of War Live-Action Series Reportedly to Be Filmed Back-to-Back

Amazon's live-action adaptation of God of War has had a turbulent path. Prime Video has ordered two seasons of the series, and its story is set to tell the franchise's Norse saga, based on the God of War game.

Amazon's live-action adaptation of God of War has had a bumpy ride.

The Prime Video service has ordered the production of two seasons of this series, and its story is supposed to tell the Norse saga of the series based on the game God of War in 2018 and its sequel, God of War Ragnarök in 2022, from the Santa Monica studio.

The series began filming in February in Vancouver, with Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Calum Vinson as his son, Atreus. However, the publication of the first official image led to different reactions in the virtual space. At the end of June, the situation became more complicated; When Hurst injured his biceps while performing a stunt, he needed surgery.

Instead of delaying production until 2027 and waiting for Hearst to recover, Amazon and Sony decided to recast Kratos. Eventually, Dave Bautista officially took over the role and finalized his contract on August 20. This change brought a heavy cost to the project. According to reports, all scenes previously shot with Hearst, including four full episodes, were scrapped and production had to start from scratch. Now, a new report suggests that the studio still plans to go ahead with the original plan. According to Daniel Richtman, the whistleblower of cinema and television news, the filming of the first and second seasons will be done back-to-back at the same time as the production resumes.

Richtman also reported that the role of Atreus will continue for the second season with another actor. Apparently, the role of Trode, Thor's daughter, which she plays in the first season of Iceland Austin, will also be given to a new actress. Callum Vinson, who is about 12 years old, is expected to continue playing the role of Atreus in the first season; But in the second season, he will be replaced by a bigger cast.

Cinema Wire's account on X social network also published this news and wrote:

According to reports, the filming of the first and second seasons of the live-action God of War series will be done back-to-back. Callum Vinson, who plays the role of Atreus, will be replaced by another actor in the second season.

This report is consistent with the casting calls that were published earlier. In August, casting ads sought 14- to 17-year-olds to play roles codenamed Joshua and Ruth; Roles thought to belong to Atreus and Trode. This age range reinforces the possibility of a time jump in the second season; A change that also fits the storyline of the two games, as Atreus is noticeably larger in God of War Ragnarök.

Amazon has yet to officially comment on the cast change. Therefore, as with other reports based on information from inside sources, these details will not be definitive until an official announcement is made by the studio. Despite his young age, Calum Vinson has made a remarkable career for himself. He has previously appeared in the series Chucky and Long Bright River and has also joined the third season of The Night Agent produced by Netflix.

The filming schedule of two consecutive seasons may make fans wait longer to watch the series. According to the original plan, production was supposed to continue until April 2027, but problems and production changes could extend this schedule.
