Russia's "massive" attack on Ukraine kills at least six and knocks out power in Kyiv

At least six people were killed in overnight Russian raids across Ukraine.

Russian airstrikes have killed at least six people in Ukraine and knocked out power in parts of the capital Kyiv, days after US President Donald Trump announced an "energy ceasefire" in the more than four-year war.

According to Ambassador Arjan, the Ministry of Defense of Russia announced on Wednesday that the country's forces have carried out a "widespread" attack against energy and communication infrastructure facilities in Ukraine.

Vitaliy Klitschko, mayor of Kyiv, urged people to stay in shelters.

He wrote in the telegram: "Energy facilities in Kiev and its surrounding areas have been attacked by massive ballistic missiles. There is a power outage in the capital.

DTEK, Ukraine's largest private energy supplier, said the attack caused emergency power outages in several urban areas of Kyiv.

Ukraine's state emergency service said a Russian attack on a multi-storey building in the capital's Desnianskyi district killed two people, while another in the Golosiivsky district left one dead.

The Ukrainian army also reported that two people were killed and six people were wounded in the Russian attacks on the Dnipropetrovsk region. Another person was killed in Zaporizhzhia region in the southeast.

Most of the Russian missile attacks were reported in the Kharkiv and Zhytomyr regions, while other attacks hit Sumi and Chernihiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia's attacks on Kiev were carried out without prior warning from its Western allies.

"Russian ballistic missile attack on Kiev. Once again, no early warning from our partners," he wrote on Facebook. This is completely unfair: when they destroy our infrastructure and Ukraine does not even receive early warnings about the launch of ballistic missiles.

The president said Ukraine detected the missiles only when they were approaching Kiev.

He also accused Russia of violating the "energy ceasefire" that Trump announced on Sunday.

"A targeted Russian ballistic missile attack specifically against energy infrastructure - the very infrastructure covered by the cease-fire announced by the US president," he wrote in X.

"This attack was completely deliberate and self-dramatic in scale - Russia has never before shown such ostentatious disrespect for the United States."

Russia also announced the attacks of Ukrainian drones around the clock. Roman Busargin, the governor of Russia's Saratov region, said that a Ukrainian drone attack killed one person in the city of Balakovo.

Bosargin said: All infrastructure facilities are working as usual. Balakovo is home to the data center of Russia's top lender Sberbank, a nuclear power plant and a hydroelectric dam whose dam is on the Volga River, among other facilities.

Air defense forces shot down nearly 500 drones flying toward the Russian capital overnight, Mayor Sergei Moscobyanin said. About 160 others fell over the Rostov region, while others targeted Moscow, Russian officials said.

The Russian military later put the number of downed Ukrainian drones at 902, of which 180 were shot down near the capital Moscow.
