Contracts, Enforcement of Player Camp Attendance / Major Shift in Iranian Football as Controversial Clause Is Drafted!

The Football Federation is on the verge of an important decision to end the dispute between clubs and youth national teams. A new clause in player contracts could change the rules for calling up teenage, youth and under-23 national team players.

According to the report of Sports 3, one of the important sidelines of Iranian football in recent months was related to the constant challenge of clubs and national teams to provide players invited to national camps. The dispute that at one point even led to the cancellation of the Omid team's camp at the beginning of September and once again revealed the weakness of the existing mechanisms to oblige the clubs to cooperate with the basic national teams.

In a situation where the Omid team's technical staff needed the presence of invited people to prepare the players and hold the planned camps, some clubs did not provide their players to this team due to the interference of the league tournament schedule with the national team schedule. The incident that not only affected the preparation plans of the Omid team, but also raised serious questions about the executive guarantee of the decisions of the Football Federation.

One of the remarkable points of this story was that even considering the disciplinary punishments for the absence of the players in the camps of the Omid team could not act as a deterrent. In practice, the difference between the club's priorities and the needs of the national team continued and the Omid team's plans were affected by these conditions. On the one hand, the clubs did not want to lose their key players due to the intensity of the league matches and the importance of their results, and on the other hand, the basic national teams needed the cooperation of the clubs to prepare and participate successfully in the upcoming competitions. This conflict of interests once again turned an old problem into one of the serious challenges of Iranian football.

Now the news comes that the football federation is looking for a structural change to solve this problem. A change based on which, from the beginning of the season, specific futures will be included in the players' contracts so that the presence of invited players in national team camps, including youth, youth and hope teams, is accompanied by a clearer executive guarantee. According to this plan, players who are invited to the basic national teams must appear in the national camps according to the established criteria, and non-attendance without a valid excuse or legal permission can be subject to the disciplinary consequences foreseen in the contract. Of course, the exact details of this clause, the type of possible exclusion and the mechanism of its implementation require official announcement and formulation of relevant regulations.

The main difference between this approach and the previous approaches is in trying to turn the obligation to attend national camps into a contractual obligation. A commitment that can have a clearer position in the relationship between the player, the club and the federation and prevent the repetition of similar disputes. If this decision is finalized and implemented, Iranian football may witness one of the important changes in the regulations related to the cooperation of clubs and national teams. In such circumstances, the issue of players' presence in national camps will no longer be limited to case agreements or threats of disciplinary action and can be pursued within the framework of contractual obligations.
