Ben Affleck Calls Justice League the “Low Point” of His Career, Criticizes Warner Brothers for Using Zack Snyder’s Grief as an Excuse

Affleck Described Warner Brothers’ Treatment of Snyder During the Making of Justice League as “One of the Worst Things” He Has Seen So Far

Affleck referred to Warner Bros.' treatment of Snyder during the making of Justice League as "one of the worst things" he had "ever seen".

During an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ben Affleck opened up about his "negative" experience filming Warner Bros.' Justice League in 2017, citing it as the "low point" of his entire career. Likewise, the Batman star took aim at the film's executives over the way director Zack Snyder's daughter's death was "used as an excuse" to replace him during filming.

After being asked about the canceled Batman solo film in the DCEU, in which Affleck was supposed to reprise his role, the actor began recounting his time working on Synder's Justice League. While Affleck stated that he would love to play Batman inspired by Frank Miller's DCEU, "the Justice League experience was so negative" that it taught him "exactly how not to make a movie," and he directly criticized Warner Bros.' treatment of director Zack Snyder during filming.

"Boy, that was bullshit," Affleck said (via IGN ). "If he was left out of that movie, and the filming that we did — if you want to call it the low point of my career, it was […] the death of someone by suicide, which overshadowed everything. It was one of the worst things I've ever seen, it was so ugly," he said.

Zack Snyder's daughter died during post-production on Justice League, at which point Snyder was replaced by The Avengers and Buffy the Vampire Slayer director Joss Whedon. Instead, Whedon continued to reshoot large portions of the film.

Ray Fisher, who played Cyborg in Justice League, later accused Whedon of "obscene, offensive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable" behavior during reshoots and criticized Warner Bros. executives Jon Berg and Geoff Johns for allowing him. Co-star Jason Momoa later supported Fisher's comments. Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot also claimed that Whedon "threatened" her career after she refused to record her lines.

As Affleck went on to explain, he heard "second-hand" accounts of his co-star's "obscene" experiences on set: "The whole environment and a lot of the vibe that I wasn't familiar with, but I heard second-hand from Ray and Gal and others, it was just like... "Wow. And I drank a lot. That's when I felt, "I'd like to quit drinking, and it's hard for me not to drink."
