Skoda's chief designer, seeing the stunning progress of algorithmic tools, expressed his surprise at the fast and flawless renderings of artificial intelligence.
The automotive industry has entered a new stage of transformation along with digital developments. Karl Neuhold, the head of Skoda's body design, admitted in a conversation with the Dutch publication Autoweek that the results of the machine learning models have exceeded expectations. He emphasizes that modern technology challenges the traditional patterns of design studios by turning initial sketches into final renderings in a fraction of a second.
Surprised by the speed of artificial intelligence in design studios
According to the manager of Skoda, generative algorithms greatly shorten the process of transforming ideas into realistic images. Having directly used these systems, Neuhold acknowledged that their high speed will force designers to sync up today's tools with their workflow:
“I am shocked by its extraordinary quality; I use it myself, and I'm amazed at how a simple design can produce outputs in seconds that you couldn't render better yourself."

The danger of artificial intelligence for automotive rookies
Increased productivity through smaller teams reduces companies' need to hire entry-level professionals. Neuhold worries that if automated systems produce all initial renderings, young designers will miss out on the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the job market:
"Do we really need that many manpower? Unfortunately yes, but the situation is really difficult for young designers; How should they become professionals? "The quality of artificial intelligence is amazing and unbelievable."
The challenge of intellectual property and uniformity of forms
Beyond the employment issue, the brands' common access to the same tools may make the cars too visually similar. Skoda believes that despite the computational speed of computers, the knowledge of safety standards, the installation of sensors and the emotional understanding of buyers' tastes still require human mind and intelligence.
