Putin Orders Halt to Attacks for One Day

The Kremlin spokesperson, stating that Kyiv has no interest in holding its presidential election, announced that if elections are held, Russia is ready to order a halt to attacks on Ukraine on polling day. He stressed the importance of achieving lasting peace.

The spokesman of the Kremlin stated that Kyiv does not want to hold its own presidential elections, and announced that Russia is ready to issue an order not to attack Ukraine on the day of the election and insists on achieving lasting peace.

According to Arjan's ambassador, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that it is clear that Kyiv does not really want to hold elections.

The presidential term of Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the president of Ukraine, ended on May 20, 2024, and the country's presidential elections at that time were canceled citing the establishment of martial law and public mobilization.

Responding to Zelensky's statement that he is ready to hold presidential elections if a 60-day ceasefire is established, Peskov said: "Actually, Kiev does not want to hold elections, and that is quite clear. "They need a 60-day ceasefire not to hold elections, but to renew their strength, heal their wounds and continue the war."

The Kremlin spokesman also emphasized that Russia wants a lasting peace and is not satisfied with establishing a ceasefire.

He went on to say: "The president has announced this before, but in this case, I can say on his behalf and with full responsibility that if they really want to hold elections in Kiev, the president of Russia and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces of this country will be ready to order that no attack be carried out on Ukraine on the day of the elections, especially on the same day."

Peskov also announced that Russia was ready to resume peace talks immediately after the State Duma elections, but according to him, Kiev launched unprecedented and widespread attacks on Moscow.

In another part of his statement, the Kremlin spokesperson said that this institution has not yet commented on the proposed proposal to establish an "energy cease-fire", but consultations in this regard are still ongoing.

He also pointed to the position of the European countries regarding the Ukraine conflict and stated that the Europeans are clearly not in the category of the "peace wing" that seeks a peaceful solution to this conflict, and rather belong to the "war wing". However, Peskov welcomed the efforts of American negotiators regarding Ukraine and appreciated their continued activities.
