Trump Pushes Russia-US Economic Cooperation After Ukraine Peace Deal - Newspaper
US officials said Trump has agreed to a deal on Russian diesel supplies to, first, lower fuel prices in the United States and, second, to "offer Russia economic and political benefits" for taking part in the negotiations.
New York, October 15. /TASS/. The Wall Street Journal, quoting informed sources, reported that US President Donald Trump is ready to develop economic relations with Russia after resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
According to this newspaper, the American leader first wants to reduce the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, and then propose a long-term ceasefire to Moscow. In a conversation with the Wall Street Journal, US officials stated that Trump reached an agreement on the supply of Russian diesel, firstly, to lower the price of fuel in the United States, and secondly, in order to "provide economic and political benefits" to Russia to participate in the negotiations. The newspaper's sources added that Trump is open to future economic relations between the United States and Russia after the resolution of the Ukraine conflict.
However, Ukrainian and European authorities are unhappy with the US actions. The Wall Street Journal noted that the threat to suspend information sharing with Kiev was accompanied by restrictions on the operation of the Starlink satellite communication system in Ukraine. The White House declined to comment on Starlink access issues. "The president and his team are committed to continuing to play a constructive role in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, and he remains optimistic that we will eventually reach a peace agreement," a US official told the newspaper.
Earlier, Sergei Beskrestnov, an adviser to Vladimir Zelensky and an expert on communications and unmanned systems, said that SpaceX had limited the operating speed of Starlink terminals for the Ukrainian military to 160 kilometers per hour.
Later, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk stated that the Starlink system would be used solely for defensive and civilian purposes, not for offensive military operations.
