After starring as Archie on the CW series for its seven-season run from 2017-23, the actor expressed his excitement for series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, chief creative officer of Archie Comics who also wrote Afterlife with Archie Comics.
"I talked to Roberto, who was our showrunner for Riverdale, and he's running the show," she told Entertainment Weekly. "And I'm really excited. I can't wait to see who they cast as Archie and the gang."
Appa admitted that "it would be nice if we could do a little something or other," noting, "I asked him!" Watch on Deadline
"I think it would be really fun if I could get in for a scene," Appa added. "Maybe I'm not even [Archie], I don't know who to play, but it's fun to do."
Set to premiere on Disney+ in Halloween 2027, Afterlife with Archie received a script-to-series order from the broadcaster last October, with Berlanti Productions (Rivedale, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Warner Bros.
Afterlife with Archie, written by Aguirre-Sacasa based on his comics and artist Francesco Francovilla, turns the all-American town of Riverdale into a zombie-ridden apocalypse - where the only thing scarier than the dead is trying to survive your teenage years. When a supernatural spell cast by a teenage witch backfires and unleashes an army of possessed people. Dead on Riverdale, Archie and his friends must fight to survive and test the friendships, romances, and loyalties that have always held them together.
