BYD Builds Humanoid Robot
BYD has unveiled the design of its first humanoid robot.
According to Ambassador Arjan's report, quoted by Interesting Engineering, this action shows the broader effort of the Chinese company BYD to enter the field of embodied artificial intelligence and robotics; An area that in the future can lead to the use of automatic robots in factories and sales representatives of this company.
The design of this robot is shown in a patent published by the National Intellectual Property Administration of China. In this document, a robot capable of walking, maintaining balance, and interacting with the environment is described, and its possible applications in the service sector, education, and industrial environments are mentioned.
Although the design is similar to the Xiao Di humanoid robot that BYD introduced earlier, the company has not yet confirmed whether the design patent is related to the final production model.
The new robot has a body with a combination of white and black colors, a round series and no display. Movable joints in the chest, arms and legs also allow it to move. The robot's humanoid structure suggests that it is intended to operate in environments designed for humans, not just dedicated industrial spaces.
According to the previously announced specifications for the Xiao Di concept robot, the robot is about 5.3 feet (162 cm) tall and weighs 58 kilograms. Also, reports indicate that this robot has 31 degrees of freedom of movement and can perform various movements with its joints. Its dexterous hands also have repeatable positioning accuracy of about 0.04 inches (one millimeter).
These capabilities can enable tasks such as picking up and moving objects and performing precise movements.
