Set in northern Vietnam in a bygone era, this period piece takes its cues from traditional Vietnamese culture. The film recreates Thị Mầu, the free-spirited and love-loving heroine of the classic game Che, who defies Confucian norms and rebels against feudal prejudices. Cheo is a traditional Vietnamese form of popular musical theater. Popular in Variety
In this film, Thị Mầu is a talented young beauty who struggles with the rigid customs and demands of her family. Following his own heart leads him into a tangle of love, jealousy, hidden truths and forbidden relationships. As private passion collides with honor and social codes, each character must reckon with the cost of their choices.
Thien A. Pham, founder of 3388 Films, said, “We are constantly looking for bold and character-driven stories that will resonate with a global audience, and 3388 Films is delighted to acquire such a bold and brash female-led film.
The film will be released in Vietnamese cinemas at the end of October, and 3388 Films will release it in several continents later this year.
"I'm excited that 'Sister 3' will soon be seen by international audiences and proud to share our film, which showcases the beauty of traditional Vietnamese culture while telling a captivating and emotionally engaging story of love, desire and secrets," said Vu.
3388 Films is a production and distribution company that prioritizes theatrical releases and has worked with Asian content for over two decades with experience across five continents.
