'The Beatles' release details: A 'four-film event' in April 2028

"It's not necessarily that we think people are going to go and see all four films in one day," Neil Street Productions co-founder Pippa Harris told Sam Mendes at the London Film Festival.

More information has arrived on Sony's distribution plan for Sam Mendes' highly anticipated Beatles film.

Paul Mescall, Harris Dickinson, Joseph Coyne and Barry Keogan will play Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, respectively, with the four films currently set to be released in the same month in 2028.

Savvy internet fans have noticed a flurry of social media videos of actors filming in costume around London over the past few months. For example, in August, they were spotted recreating the band's iconic Abbey Road album cover. The original photo, taken on August 8, 1969, shows the Fab Four walking single file down a walkway outside EMI Studios in London.

On Monday, Mendes' longtime producing partner, Neil Street Productions co-founder Pippa Harris, sat down for a keynote at the BFI London Film Festival's industry forum. He gave an interesting update on the release, which is currently being described as a "four-film cinematic event" in April.

Harris - who came from the set to appear at an industry forum just an hour before returning - said the team is currently on day 180 of filming. "The idea right now is that the movies will be released in 2028 and we want people to be able to experience them in theaters around that time," he replied later in the session when asked for more details on the distribution schedule.

"It doesn't necessarily mean that we think people are going to go and see all four movies in one day," he clarified. But in the same month, you might see one a week, or you might see one on the weekend, two the next week. "However, I think our hope is that people will see all four films." "They stand on their own as individual stories of each of those four men, but they have a cumulative power, which I think is greater than the sum of their parts," he continued. The Beatles, in my opinion, are the greatest band in history, and we try our best to do them justice. Hence the four films. "I don't think there's probably another band that you can legitimately say you want to see four movies for."

Earlier in the session, she jokingly revealed that cast members were specifically told not to talk about top-secret footage on various red carpets. "It's a huge effort," Harris said.

Also in The Beatles films, Mia McKenna-Bruce stars as Maureen Cox, Ringo Starr's wife. Anna Sawai will be Yoko Ono, John Lennon's wife. And Amy Lou Wood will be Patty Boyd, who married George Harrison. Saoirse Ronan plays Linda (Eastman) McCartney.

A prolific producer, Harris is one of the greats of the British film and television industry, having worked for decades on some of the most popular shows and films the country has ever produced. Among them Hamnet, 1917 and Call the Midwife.

He delved into his wide-ranging career with radio host Edith Bowman on Monday, where he reflected on a string of iconic projects, his advice to aspiring producers in the room and why he hasn't yet won that lucrative Oscar.

The 70th BFI London Film Festival runs from October 7th to 18th.
