"There Should be a Game Award for Hot Dads" - Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Devs are well aware and love "Horny" Fanart for their game
The developers of Castlevania: Belmont's Curse are avid "horny" fans of the game's characters, and say they've specifically "anchored" them to appeal to fans.
The developers of Castlevania: Belmont's Curse are keen on all the "horns" fans have seen of the game's characters, and say they've specifically "distorted" them to appeal to fans.
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse was released on October 15th, and you've no doubt already seen the backlash from online players for the title - especially when it comes to its character designs.
Yes, that's right; Thirsty players are Trevor Belmont and various monsters who must fight in the chaotic streets of Paris, but they should not feel embarrassed about it. In fact, the developers were counting on this happening.
Speaking to Fall Damage, marketing director and lead designer Bérenger Dupré and Sandro Bordier revealed that they're absolutely loving the thirsty reactions to the game's characters — and that includes the "Horn" fans have seen on social media.
"Oh, it's already started. Like, we've seen things," Bordier joked.
Dupre added: "Especially assassination." "I had no idea he was so well received."
"Do you think we could add a 'hot daddies version,'" Bourdieu asked, and Dupre said "there should be a game bonus for hot daddies."
Dupre continued, "It's always fun to see the fanart because we know how important and dear these characters are to the fans. We're trying to create new and fresh stories with them, so it's always very stressful. And right now, the reception is very, very emotional."
The duo went on to admit that they went out of their way to make the characters interesting, with Boudier saying, "Yes, as we know some of the characters are hot. It's actually a choice. Like a vibe. We're very proud of that."
"Honestly, we've been very happy with all the fan reactions to the characters that have been revealed," he added. We really put a lot of effort into designing them to please the fans. We were very happy to see how they reacted to the designs and of course the voice actor revealed it."
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse was released to strong reviews, with IGN's Scott White giving the game an eight out of ten, praising it for "bringing Konami's beloved series into the modern era with a quick focus on action-first".
It's clear that a lot of love has gone into this title. Among the various eggs and secret codes inside, the developers also paid homage to characters from classic fighting games, which can be seen if players find a hidden weapon in one of the game's early episodes.
