Denza Z

Rational motivations such as environmental awareness, economic pragmatism, and techno-friendliness drive electric vehicle purchases. Lust? not so much That's about to change with the Denza Z, an electric supercar from the luxury division of Chinese giant BYD. "A pure sports car, in the age of new energy, can convey the same emotions and feelings as a gasoline car," says BYD design director Wolfgang Iger, a veteran of Lamborghini and Audi. Aesthetically, the Z has poster-worthy curves, but they're optimized for aerodynamics and downforce, where a combustion car would also need to use them for cooling. In terms of performance, the company says its 1,582-horsepower engine will propel occupants from 0-100 km/h in 2.25 seconds, untouchable numbers for its peers. And it's not just road speed: Denza says the Z's battery can go from 10% to 70% capacity in 5 minutes with compatible chargers – about as fast as it pumps gas into your Porsche. The Z will be available in China, Europe and the UK by the end of 2026.
