Trump says he is certain Canada will be part of the United States

The U.S. president said he believes Canada will do "something like Greenland."

Washington, October 15. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that Canada will eventually become part of the United States.

"They're going to end up being the 51st state because that's the only way," he said at a campaign rally in Arizona ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections.

Stating that America loses 100 billion dollars annually due to trade and economic relations with Canada, he said: You know we don't need them, but they need us. "So they're going to do something like Greenland," he noted. In September, Trump and the Prime Ministers of Denmark and Greenland, Matt Fredriksen and Jens Fredrik Nielsen, signed an agreement under which Washington would take control of Greenland's security.

Trump has repeatedly called for Canada to become part of the United States. The US leader has mentioned Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney as the governor more than once. Canadian officials have ruled out joining the United States. In an interview with The New York Times in late September, Carney said Canadian officials had spent the past year preparing for the possibility of a U.S. military invasion, though they considered such a scenario unlikely.
