US President Donald Trump announced at a rally in Kalispell that the Pentagon will build an extraordinary military site in Montana for testing hypersonic weapons.
Trump announced a new military "superbird" to test advanced weapons in Montana
A new military "superbird" is coming to Montana to test advanced weapons and technology, including autonomous, space and electronic warfare systems, and hypersonic and hypersonic systems, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday.
President Donald Trump named his supporters an "ambassador" at a midterm rally in Montana on Wednesday, announcing that the Pentagon will build a new military "super range" in the state to test weapons and advanced warfare technologies.
The president said the range supports testing of potential autonomous weapons, space and electronic warfare technology, and hypersonic and hypersonic systems, and positions Montana to play a greater role in developing America's next-generation military capabilities.
"I am pleased to inform you and to announce that right here in Montana, the Department of War is establishing a new super-range for testing advanced weapons and technologies," Trump told fans gathered at the Majestic Valley Arena in Kalispell.

Trump suggested that the project has attracted much attention in other parts of the country.
"The rest of our country might not be thrilled because a lot of other people wanted it, too," Trump said.
The president also joked about the continued lobbying of Republican Montana lawmakers, who Sen. Timshehi had repeatedly pressured him to bring the project to the state.
"Will you, everyone, please leave me alone?" "Leave me alone, Tim. Tim Sheehy is going to drive me crazy," Trump joked.
The announcement puts Montana at the center of a proposed military test program involving some of the Pentagon's most sophisticated emerging technologies.
Hypersonic weapons, which can travel at least five times the speed of sound, are among advanced military capabilities being developed by the Pentagon, according to the Government Accountability Office. The Department of War has also identified autonomous systems and electronic warfare capabilities as areas of strategic importance.

Trump did not specify where in Montana the new range would be located, how much the project would cost or when test operations would begin.
"Montana will help America's military always be the best," the president told the audience.
Trump made the announcement during his second campaign rally of the day and his third stop on the western swing aimed at supporting Republican candidates ahead of the midterm elections.
After holding a rally in Arizona earlier Wednesday, the president appeared in Montana's 1st District to campaign for House candidate Aaron Flynt and Senate candidate Kurt Alme. He also campaigned in Alaska on Tuesday.
