US may ease sanctions on ships carrying Russian oil
According to a Reuters source, the US government wants to lower global shipping rates.
According to the official, the US government "is considering easing sanctions on so-called shadow fleet ships that transport oil and petroleum products from countries such as Russia, Iran and Venezuela in an effort to reduce global shipping rates."
To do so, the agency noted, companies intending to use the vessels would need to obtain a permit from the US Treasury Department, adding that negotiations were focused on allowing previously sanctioned vessels to legally carry oil.
