Plage de Nacion Mosque; Combining traditional architecture and natural lighting (+photo)
The Plage de Nacion mosque in Morocco is designed by combining the elements of Western architecture and a contemporary approach to light, structure and landscape. The white concrete arches and mesh facade form the visual identity of the building; A view that creates different patterns of shadows during the day by changing the light.
Sefir Arjan - The Plage de Nacion mosque in Morocco has been formed using references of Western architecture and a contemporary approach to light, structure and landscape. The design of this building focuses on the interaction between architectural elements, natural light and the surrounding environment.
White concrete arches and mesh facade
White concrete arches define the main structure and visual identity of the mosque. Next to them, there is a mesh shell that filters the sunlight and creates changing patterns of light and shadow on the building surfaces during the day.
This solution turns natural light into a part of the spatial experience of the mosque and changes the appearance of the building at different times of the day.
Changing the appearance of the building from the outside to the inside
The slope of the construction site plays an important role in how the building is seen. The mosque looks huge and magnificent from the road side; But in the interior, it looks simpler and less pretentious.
This difference in the perception of the building is one of the design features of the project and highlights the relationship between the building form and the topography of the land.
In this project, the roof of the mosque is not only a cover for the building, but it has become a pedestrian path covered with plants around the minaret. This design turns the roof into a part of the architectural landscape and expands the connection between the building and the surrounding open space.
The architectural design of Plage de Nacion mosque was done by OUALALOU + CHOI architecture office. The pictures of the project were recorded by Adnan Zamameh.
