Small hatchback Smart #2 was unveiled at the 2026 Paris Motor Show. This car is exactly what the busy city streets need; A compact device that is designed for daily transportation and is not supposed to occupy half of the neighborhood's parking space with the dimensions of a family SUV!

Smart #2, with a length of less than 2.8 meters, a rear electric motor and a very small turning radius, is a return to the original philosophy of this brand. In this philosophy, intelligent use of limited urban space is preferable to large dimensions and unnecessary facilities. It is interesting to note that this car was created with the cooperation of Mohammad Hossein Amini Yekta; An Iranian-born designer who has been working for the Mercedes-Benz Group for several years.

Smart #2 is only 2,746 mm long. Such a figure puts this electric hatchback in the category of very small city cars. Of course, the Couture Edition is slightly longer and its length reaches 2,764 mm. For this model, Smart has announced a turning radius of only 6.95 meters. This feature makes it much easier to use the car in busy city roads.

The design of Smart #2 remains faithful to the well-known principles of this brand. The wheels have been moved to the corners of the body as much as possible, the dual coloring of the body and the two-piece trunk are among the features that maintain the visual identity of the Smart. The immune cell or structure known as Tridion Smart is also present in this model; Of course, with new revisions and a different name Tridion Cell Evo. You may know that this structure is one of the key elements of the early smart cars and has been preserved in #2 as a part of the car's engineering and safety identity. Of course, we must emphasize that this car is not just an electric version of one of the company's old models. This hatchback is developed on the brand new Electric Compact Architecture (ECA for short) platform. According to Smart, this platform is specially designed for this small electric car.

Smart engine #2 consists of an electric motor. This engine is installed in the rear and produces a maximum of 80 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque. The power of this engine is transmitted to the rear wheels through a single-speed gearbox. Relying on this engine, it takes 11.6 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h. The maximum speed reaches 140 km/h.

One of the remarkable features of Smart #2 is its low weight. This car weighs only 1,140 kg; A figure that seems very appropriate and even low compared to many electric cars today. You may know that the high weight of electric models is mostly rooted in their bulky batteries. Smart has somehow solved this problem by choosing small dimensions and a battery suitable for urban use.

In the suspension department, Smart #2 uses a five-link system in the rear axle. According to Smart, such a structure is used for the first time in a car in this class. This additional battery company is installed in the lower part of the floor of the car to increase the stability #2 by lowering the center of gravity.

Smart #2 is equipped with a 35.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate or LFP battery. According to the European WLTP standard, this battery can charge up to 290 km. Although this amount of mileage is not impressive, it can be enough for a car that is mainly designed for daily city commuting. The maximum charging speed of this car is 65 kW; This means that in optimal conditions, charging the battery from 10 to 80 percent takes about 20 minutes. If using standard city electricity, the 11 kW charger allows full charging in approximately three hours. It should be noted that the basic Pure version is produced with a 7.4 kW single-phase internal charger; Because of this, it will take more time to charge the battery. Let's add this, Smart #2 is equipped with Vehicle-to-Load or V2L capability. This technology allows the user to use battery power to power external devices.

Smart #2 is equipped with today's digital features. In the center of the dashboard, there is a 10.1-inch touch screen; The driver also sees the information he needs through the 8.8-inch screen. One of the interesting features of the dashboard is a section called Smart Pillar. This structure is intended for the installation of small accessories. The trunk of Smart #2 has a significant volume considering the dimensions of the car. In normal condition, this trunk provides 305 liters of space to the driver. By changing the layout, this figure can be increased to 527 liters. The Smart #2 two-piece trunk lid is inherited from the previous models. In this structure, the rear window opens independently from the lower part of the trunk; A solution that can be useful for quickly placing small items in the cargo space.

Smart #2 is equipped with a set of safety features and driver assistance systems. Seven airbags, adaptive cruise control with the ability to stop and restart, lane keeping assistant, blind spot detection system, traffic sign recognition and highway driving assistant are among the equipment of this car. Parking sensors along with the rear camera also help the driver to maneuver in limited spaces; An issue that is particularly important considering the urban use and the small dimensions of the car.

In the European market, Smart #2 will be sold in Pure, Pure+ and Premium versions. Along with these models, the Couture Edition version is also available, the production of which will be limited to 999 units. The base price of this car in Germany is set at less than 20,000 euros; With today's exchange rate, this figure is equivalent to approximately 5.8 billion Tomans. The Couture Edition also costs about 25,500 euros or 7.4 billion tomans. In addition to more features, this special edition benefits from heated seats, a heated steering wheel and a glass roof. 16-inch rims with gold details, interior lighting with the ability to choose from 256 colors, sound system from the well-known Sennheiser brand, and a special license plate with a production number are also included in its equipment list.

Smart #2 will be manufactured in China and its launch in European markets is planned for the first half of next year. This car is the result of continued cooperation between Mercedes-Benz and Geely in the form of the Smart brand. You may know that Mercedes-Benz is no longer the exclusive owner of Smart. In 2019, this German automaker formed a joint venture with a 50% share for each party with the Chinese company Geely to manage and develop the brand together.
