In an unprecedented spending spree to secure Gianni Infantino's presidency, FIFA plans to distribute a significant share of its financial reserves among member federations.
According to the report of Sport Se, FIFA is on the verge of approving a support package of more than six billion dollars for the period 2027-2030 in response to increasing pressure on the management of this organization and to satisfy the members.
The athletic website revealed that FIFA plans to allocate more than six billion dollars in funds for the development of world football in the period from 2027 to 2030. According to this plan, the contribution of each of the member federations will increase from the previous 10 million dollars to 25 million dollars in a four-year period.
In addition, each of the six continental confederations will receive $99 million. FIFA plans to withdraw more than 3.5 billion dollars from its financial reserves to finance this huge project. Reserves that have reached about 15 billion dollars thanks to the exceptional commercial revenues of the 2026 World Cup.
This capricious proposal comes at a time when intense tensions have arisen over Gianni Infantino's management and the FIFA president is under intense pressure. This crisis peaked after the abandonment of the controversial "FIFA Forward Enterprise" project. A plan based on which twenty percent of FIFA's commercial activities and events were to be handed over to private investors close to Donald Trump.
It was after this proposal that UEFA President Alexander Ceferin and CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani publicly called for Infantino's resignation and stressed that the accumulated financial resources should be distributed among the member federations.
This proposed package will be reviewed by the FIFA Council on Thursday, and if initially approved, it will be finally approved at the congress in March.
Infantino is seeking a third consecutive term as FIFA president in 2027, and given that it appears that a major challenger will not register by the Nov. 18 deadline, this multibillion-dollar donation could pave the way for him to regain the presidency.
