Cineverse is teaming up with Trevor Henderson, horror creator of viral characters like Siren Head and Cartoon Cat, to adapt his podcast Mayfair Watchers Society into a feature film, Variety can exclusively reveal.

Launching in 2022 as part of Cineverse's Bloody FM network, the Mayfair Viewers Association podcast is "presented as a collection of tapes and found-audio accounts, each episode focusing on a different resident who encounters the iconic style of Henderson's monsters," according to the official description. The film will be a found footage anthology that follows various podcast stories and creatures, including The Needle, The Crackman, The Toothy Owl, Mr. Bag, Distressed Dogs, Scissors, and The Clutter. "The teams at Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting have been great podcast partners, and I've long been impressed by the company's cinematic side and independent philosophy," said Henderson. I'm looking forward to being very efficient with adapting the podcast into a film, and I'm looking forward to working closely with them as they develop the film, select a directing and writing team, and get closer to bringing it to fans.

Henderson has been a key proponent of Hollywood's rush toward digital native IP, spurred by the success of A24's $400 million blockbuster Backrooms. The rights to Henderson's Siren Head, a mysterious urban predator masquerading as a tall siren post, went to Warner Bros. after a competitive bidding war, and have now been picked up by director Brian Duffield and screenwriter Zach Cregger. Just a few weeks later, TriStar Pictures acquired the rights to Henderson's cartoon cat for a feature adaptation.

Cineverse is the genre-reviving studio behind movies like "Terrifier 3," "The Toxic Avenger," and "Silent Night, Deadly Night." Recent releases include the 20th anniversary screening of Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Maze, which opened on October 8.

Trevor Henderson is represented by Verve, Redshift and Marios Rush. The deal was negotiated by Macias and Cineverse's VP of Creative Development and Filmmaker Relations, Steven Pruss.
