Know the Misconceptions About Hypertension
A cardiovascular specialist warned against neglecting treatment, expecting rapid control of blood pressure, and self-medicating.
According to the report of Ambassador Arjan, quoted by Webda, Abdul Hakim Al-Kamel, referring to some false beliefs about high blood pressure, emphasized the need to be aware of this disease and follow the correct principles of treatment.
Stating that high blood pressure is not exclusive to the elderly, he said: This disease may also occur at a young age, and it is a false belief to have high blood pressure only in old age.
Al Kamel added: Many people with high blood pressure do not have any specific symptoms; Therefore, the absence of symptoms does not mean that blood pressure is normal, and its regular diagnosis and control is very important.
Emphasizing that blood pressure control requires patience and follow-up treatment, he stated: Treatment usually begins with the appropriate dose of medicine and is adjusted based on the patient's condition and the doctor's opinion. Therefore, patients should not change the drug dosage without consulting a doctor or expect blood pressure to return to normal range immediately.
This cardiologist also warned against self-inflicted drug use when blood pressure increases and stated: Captopril is not a sublingual drug, contrary to what some people think, and taking additional drugs or changing the way blood pressure drugs are taken should be done with the guidance of a doctor.
Al-Kamel considered blood pressure measurement at home as one of the effective methods for monitoring the patient's condition and said: excessive and obsessive blood pressure measurement can increase the patient's anxiety. It is better to measure the frequency according to the doctor's recommendation and specific schedule.
In the end, he emphasized the importance of correct blood pressure measurement, regular use of prescribed medications and medical follow-up to prevent the complications of this disease.
