The head of the National Center for Virtual Space announced that Iran has access to systems for identifying Starlink satellite internet terminals and disconnecting them, and this technology cannot be considered beyond the reach of control measures.
Mohammad Amin Aghamiri, the secretary of the Supreme Council of Cyberspace and the head of the National Cyberspace Center, said in a press conference on October 21, 1405 that Iran has several systems to deal with Starlink satellite internet terminals. According to him, these equipments enable the identification of the terminals used to connect to the satellite network and disrupt their communication.
Referring to the applications of Starlink in the communication and military fields, Aghamiri stated that in addition to providing access to the Internet, this technology can also be used to transmit information, guide drones, and communicate with command and control.
In response to doubts about the possibility of technical confrontation with this network, he emphasized that no communication technology can be considered completely outside the scope of management and technological confrontation. However, the technical details of the mentioned systems and their effectiveness were not explained in the statements made.
The mechanism of dealing with Starlink from the point of view of the National Center of Virtual Space
Referring to the technical structure of Starlink, the head of the National Center for Virtual Space explained that the ground terminals of this network communicate with satellites using phased array antennas. According to him, Iran has tools to identify these terminals and has followed technologies to disrupt or disconnect them.
Aghamiri also mentioned the technical challenges of satellite networks in the field of maintaining communication between mobile satellites and considered these features as factors that can affect the communication performance of such systems.
