The spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry said that we had warned Japan about intelligence activities under the guise of journalism.

According to Ambassador Arjan's report, quoted by Rianavosti, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova announced that Moscow had previously warned Tokyo about the unacceptable and destructive nature of intelligence activities under the guise of journalism.

In response to the arrest of a Japanese journalist in the Sakhalin region on charges of espionage, he said: Tokyo's efforts to use its journalists in Russia with the aim of gathering information and undermining the country's security are regrettable. This event will be another factor for the deepening of relations between Russia and Japan.

Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Tuesday that it has detained a reporter for the Japanese newspaper Hokkaido Shimbun in the Sakhalin region on suspicion of espionage.

According to the announcement of this security agency, the said journalist has been accused of collecting and maintaining information related to Russia's defense capability with the aim of transferring it to the Japanese intelligence agency. This reporter was taken to Moscow after his arrest and a court in this city ordered his temporary detention for nearly two months.

Japanese authorities have announced that they are pursuing the matter through the embassy of this country in Moscow and have demanded humane and fair treatment of their detained citizen.
